How to bring the cultural change

We often talk about the much-needed changes in diversity, equity, and inclusion. And of course, the shift should start in education, the way we are raised, and our perspectives. But let's take a moment to think about what we can change (and are in fact changing right now): the working culture. How do we do that, you might wonder? The answer might seem simple, it starts with retraining women in tech, but that's only part of the process.??

Before presenting our ways of bringing the cultural change, let's first go back to establishing the basics of "how to make impact 101". An inclusive culture starts with inclusive values so, to make things easier, here’s a list of a few essential inclusive values for the workplace.?

1. Respectful conduct. Shared equally and unconditionally among all employees, without bias. This means dropping any (biased) filters and fostering mutual trust and understanding. Even take it a step further and speak up when you observe someone's bias.?

2. Key mindsets. There are 5 principles that shape inclusive behaviours: self-awareness, curiosity, courage, vulnerability, and empathy. An inclusive place embraces them all.?

3. Collaboration. Needless to say, it's crucial. However, the magic truly happens when it's embraced by a diverse team, and the best win-win scenarios take place.?

4. Sense of belonging. Creating a feeling of belonging and bringing people along the journey is essential. This means inviting everyone to join the conversation, valuing all input and providing guidance when needed.?

5. Safe space. Creating a safe space, both physically and psychologically, and a speak-up culture where employees can speak their minds without fearing the consequences is crucial. It's this sense of safety that allows for out-of-the-box ideas to come up.?
