How to not break your ankle...

WOW, I really thought I had broken my ankle!

Not sure how the snow was with you guys, but here in snowy Essex, it has been non-stop for 3 days solid.

Very exciting for the kids and definitely a welcome distraction from the fact that nothing fun is open.

Here's a direct quote from my four-year-old, " Daddy, I hate codavie! It means that the only open things are really boring, and they make me want to fall asleep!"

(Codavie is COVID 19 for anyone that didn't get that.)

So back to snow.

It's been quite thick here and probably about 5 cm's (insert loud laughing from our New York-born clients and friends.) On the upside, it looks beautiful and perfect for throwing children down steep hills: The downside, it's bloody treacherous to walk on.

Not only is it slippery, but it covers holes over you would usually easily avoid.

I found this out first-hand yesterday when I nearly broke my ankle; I really did.

Climbing out of the car and placing my right ankle down on what I thought was a flat surface, my foot rolled sideways, and my ankle moved into a very uncomfortable position, 90 degrees to the left, OUCH.

Sitting back in the car and shutting the doors, I was free to swear loudly without anyone hearing me. The pain was instant and intense, but it started to subside quickly.

Looking back on yesterday, it occurred to me just how much aggravation breaking my ankle would cause to my family and me.

The trip to the hospital, the hours of waiting In the A and E, the pain, the not sleeping, the inability to drive the kids and on and on it goes...

It doesn't even bear thinking about, does it...

But what happened? Why didn't I break my ankle, or at least even sprain it (? It's fine now.)

I had the mobility and range in my ankle to manage the extreme movement and for the muscles and ligaments to deal with it. The weekly muscle activation work that I do helps keep my ankle and hips in good nick! THANK GOD!

Do you ever worry about injuries?

Do you have an area of weakness that you feel is a ticking time bomb?

Old injuries causing you problems or restrict your ability to move freely?

Let us know; we have some very effective methods for reducing pain and minimising the risk of injury. Even better, they can be done safely and efficiently at home. The team and I are pleased to share them for free.

Yesterday shook me up a bit, and I want to show as many people as possible how to avoid injuring themselves.

We look forward to hearing from you.
