How to Break Business Rules To Create Better Success

The online business world has a very low barrier of entry that makes it very easy for someone to start and very difficult for them to succeed.?
Especially because there is so much hyped-up advice and noise that if it’s your first time in business, it’s easy to be duped into wasting a lot of money and time on hot new tactics that don’t move the needle for your unique business.?
Social media gurus and online course creators make certain tactics seem easy and foolproof - but they rarely work as effortlessly as portrayed. This misalignment happens because we don't take the time to get clarity. You have to know what you want, what you don't want, and have strong boundaries in place.?
Otherwise, as business growth expert Erin Marcus puts it: "If you don't make decisions for you, people who are not vested in you get to make those decisions." When you aren't clear on your direction, it's human nature to be swayed by others. The brain actually craves information and input.?
But not all advice applies to YOUR business or abilities because business, sales, marketing, and life are not one size fits all. If you try to emulate every successful entrepreneur's path, you'll likely end up overwhelmed and/or stuck.
Map Out Your Own Route
The beginning of your business getting easier is imagining your end destination FIRST. Instead of looking left and right at what everyone else is doing, take some time to map out your own route. Where do you currently stand and where do you want to go? Don't think about the how just yet - simply get clear on your vision. Once you define the endpoints, reverse engineer the journey. It’s much easier to break down steps when you know what point A and point B both are. This strategic approach prevents you from spinning your wheels on random tactics that provide instant gratification but no momentum.
This allows you to avoid what Erin calls, “settling for the business you can pull off instead of the business you actually want because you just don't know how to get there.” - love that line!
Identify Your Anchors
As you get going, things rarely go as planned so it’s important to pay close attention to what is not working well and quickly adjust.?
Hint: It’s not always a marketing issue of needing more leads (the most common go-to solution).?

It’s often the finances, team, marketing, or processes that are holding you back. These are your "anchors" in an otherwise high-performing business and no amount of “more marketing” will fix them.?
As Erin says, “there are a million ways to build a million-dollar business.” There’s no reason to use tactics you actually hate or don’t provide results because someone else who is a completely different human than you said they were the only way.?
Pay attention to YOUR data, goals, and experience - because they’re all that matter.?
And if it’s not broken - don’t fix it because someone said so (unless they know your business inside and out before making that recommendation.)?
