How to Boost Your Resilience When You Feel Tired and Burned Out.

Do you ever feel like you are constantly facing challenges and difficulties in life, and you are just tired of being resilient? Do you ever feel like giving up, but you can’t because you have responsibilities and obligations? Do you ever wonder how to keep going when your breakthrough seems so far away?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this edition of Spirit Joy Essentials is for you. I’m going to share with you some tips and strategies that I learned from my own experience of feeling burned out and weary, and how I managed to bounce back and find joy and meaning in life again.

But before I do that, let me tell you a story of how I got inspired to write about this topic.

The Story Behind This Post

A few years ago, I was going through a very tough time in my life. I felt like nothing was working out for me, and I was losing hope and motivation.

One day, a friend of mine complimented me on my resilience. She said that she admired how I never gave up, how I always found a way to overcome obstacles, and how I always stayed positive and optimistic.

But instead of feeling grateful for her kind words, I felt angry. Angry because I felt like she was praising me for suffering, rather than coping. Angry because I felt like I had become a stoic martyr who endured pain and hardship without any reward or recognition. Angry because I felt like resilience was not something to be proud of, but something to be ashamed of.

I realized later that my friend was not applauding my suffering. She was applauding my survival. She was applauding my strength and courage. She was applauding my inspiration and influence.

But at that moment, I couldn’t appreciate her compliment. I was too low and vulnerable to see the positive side of resilience.

What Is Resilience?

So what is resilience anyway? And why is it important?

According to the American Psychological Association, resilience is “the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress.”

Resilience is not about avoiding or denying problems. Resilience is about finding solutions and learning from them. Resilience is not about being passive or helpless. Resilience is about being active and empowered. Resilience is not about being perfect or flawless. Resilience is about being human and growing.

Resilience is important because it helps us cope with stress and challenges in life. It helps us overcome obstacles and achieve our goals. It helps us find meaning and purpose in life. It helps us develop our character and potential.

Resilience is a skill that can be learned and improved. It is not a fixed trait that we are born with or without. It is influenced by various factors, such as our mindset, our environment, our relationships, our habits, and our actions.

How to Boost Your Resilience

So how can we boost our resilience when we feel tired and burned out? How can we keep going when we feel like giving up? How can we find joy and meaning when we feel hopeless and lost?

Here are some tips and strategies that I wish I knew when I was feeling low and weary:

  • Recognize your own needs and feelings. You are a human being, not a machine. You have physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs that deserve attention and care. You also have feelings that are valid and important. Acknowledge them and express them in healthy ways. Don’t suppress or ignore them for the sake of others.
  • Ask for and accept help. You don’t have to do everything by yourself. You are not a burden or a failure if you need assistance or support. There are people who care about you and want to help you. Reach out to them and let them know what you need. Accept their help with gratitude and grace. Don’t feel guilty or obligated to repay them. You do not need to suffer in silence.
  • Set healthy boundaries. You have the right to say no to things that are unreasonable, harmful, or disrespectful. You have the right to protect yourself from people who are abusive, manipulative, or toxic. You have the right to decide what you will and won’t do, and how much you will and won’t give. Communicate your boundaries clearly and firmly. Don’t let others cross them or pressure you to change them.
  • Find meaning and purpose in life. You are not here to suffer or sacrifice. You are here to live and thrive. You have gifts and talents that you can use to contribute to the world in positive ways. You have passions and interests that you can pursue and enjoy. You have values and beliefs that you can align your actions with. Find what makes you happy and fulfilled and do more of it.
  • Practice gratitude and self-compassion. You have many things to be thankful for in life, even when things are hard or challenging. Focus on the good things that you have, rather than the bad things that you don’t. Appreciate yourself for who you are, rather than what you do. Be kind and gentle with yourself, rather than harsh and critical. Celebrate your achievements, rather than dwell on your failures.

These are some of the tips and strategies that I learned from my own experience of feeling burned out and weary, and how I managed to bounce back and find joy and meaning in life again.

I hope they will help you too, if you ever feel tired of being resilient.

Remember, resilience is not about suffering or enduring pain. Resilience is about finding ways to overcome or adapt to challenges and difficulties. Resilience is about learning from your experiences and growing as a person. And it is about finding meaning and purpose in your life, even when things are hard.

So don’t give up on yourself or your dreams. You are stronger than you think.
