Tactics To Boost Your Social Media Traffic

Social media has the ability to be a major source of traffic. The larger presence you build on social media, the more you can rely on steady social media traffic.

It’s why I have hyperfocus and built a primary social presence on LinkedIn. It’s how I grew a total of 62,500 followers in 3.5 years. 

Traditionally, it’s been a place to host your resume, but since then it's becoming more content-driven. I staked down a flag and created a channel to be the trusted source for personal brand marketing. 

For you to keep building your personal brand and increase social traffic, consider these 3 things: 

1. Think Like A Niche Channel 

The best social media influencers and content creators, they own their channels, which drives social traffic to their brand. 

To be your own channel, you need to niche down.

To niche down, you need to think of a primary category that will always make people come back for more information and insights, or entertained. 

Bailey Sarian: A makeup artist with 1.5million Instagram followers. She is known for showing off her variety of looks using her skillset. I’m low key obsessed watching her social video series “Murder and Makeup” - where she puts on makeup while telling horror stories based on true events. 

Zoe Sugg: Another influencer who has a strong personal brand. Zoe is a YouTuber with over 4.1 million subscribers, she vlogs about her entrepreneurial life.

The point is that you need to think of your personal brand as a channel.

Pick a primary social channel.
Pick a niche category. 

When you focus and be the trusted channel, you will grow your audience. When you grow your audience, your social traffic goes up.

2. Create Engaging Content, Consider The Game Of Attention

I love content, this is also where most entrepreneurs and professionals get it wrong, they create content, but it’s super dry. It doesn’t trigger engagement or attention.

They wonder why they're failing. It’s because they are not playing the game of attention.  

Engaging means clicks and comments.

That’s how you get the network effect and more traffic. 

Every social platform has its own algorithm and triggers. But the common thread is that to create “engaging” content, you need to have conversations with your volks.

Volks is my way to describe your target audience. It’s more than a like or heart, engaging means: 

  • Genuine comments that turn into conversations in your comment thread 
  • Show-stopping visuals (videos or images) that stop them from scrolling down the feed
  • Most importantly, evoke emotions. Does your post engage with your volks’ anger or excitement?

It’s LinkedIn Polls - it’s because a good poll is polarising and easy to interact with.

  • If you’re an expert with domain expertise, you’re monetising your knowledge.
  • If you’re a coach then you’re looking to attract clients.

I have always been for segmenting the target audiences and tailoring the message according to the message, channel, "temperature" of the segment or in other words, segment's readiness to receive the message and act upon it.
