How Bold Self-Expression is the Catalyst for Personal Growth

You aren't really living if you aren't expressing your true self.

?

Authentic self-expression forms the basis of who you are as an individual and empowers us to communicate our ideas, thoughts, and feelings about how we see the world.

?

You're probably thinking. How do I become free at expressing myself? I already know how to speak and talk. That’s a start. I'm talking about bold self-expression which is really putting yourself out there and being vulnerable expressing yourself with your creative spin on it. That's where the roadblock happens for most people due to all the social fears that come up. Like the fear of judgment, the fear of rejection, the fear of getting in trouble, the fear of disappointment, the fear of mistakes or the big one, fear of not being enough.

?

In a world where our voices are typically squashed everywhere we go due to hierarchal control, humans are unable to fully express themselves.

?

The need for bold self-expression is more important than ever. When we aren't fully expressing our human nature, we learn to suppress and hide important parts of who we are, and that causes us long-lasting mental and emotional pain, and sometimes even disease.

?

That is where personal growth comes in. Without self-expression, there is no personal growth. We're not taking chances on what we believe in, what we want.?When we free up our self-expression we grow as leaders, develop better relationships, grow more influential in our communities, and we open the door to our creativity. Self-expression is the catalyst!

?

When you're living in authentic self-expression, you are setting yourself free. Free to be you, free to express and share you with the world. You step into accepting and loving yourself for who are you and what you believe. When you're fully expressing yourself, you feel free to explore and experiment and through these experiences, you're learning great wisdom. It all becomes a self-discovery journey where you learn more and more about yourself, your feelings, and what really lights you up. Personal freedom becomes the greatest benefit of self-expression.

??

Let's take a look at the core areas people crave to have more freedom in:

?

Creativity:

Creativity is self-expression.

It’s the artistic pursuit of emotions that doesn’t have to be expressed through words. You can express yourself through art, dance, music, writing, fashion, and so on.

When you tap into your creative Self-expression, you can really be free. It's the secret to happiness. The big challenge here is not many people feel free creatively so they resort to sitting on the sidelines and scrolling on social media, or living multiple lives between the person they want to be and a made-up version of themselves. When you do express yourself creatively, that's what leads us to a deeper level of understanding and self-discovery.

Relationships:

In our relationships, we're always communicating and expressing ourselves to our loved ones, friends, or acquaintances.?The more expressive, vulnerable, and raw we are the more we build deeper and more meaningful relationships. The issue is, a lot of our relationships are surface level. In order to really create the deep emotional connection we humans crave, you must be expressing yourself, and be willing to pull down the masks we wear to hide our insecurities. That is why divorce rates are astronomical, people running around cheating on each other, a lack of intimacy or trust, and no emotional connection.?There is no depth. Once you pull down the mask and really express yourself that is where the real magic takes place and unconditional love is created.

Leadership:

Whether you're leading a team or want to become a leader, the first step is always sharing what you're passionate about and what you want. Without self-expression, there is no innovation. As a leader, we always need to be speaking our truth and using our best judgment to guide the team where we need to go and spark new ideas for long-term growth. That is why self-expression as a leader is so important. When leaders are open, and vulnerable, sharing ideas and new ways of thinking it creates an environment for team members to use their gifts and step into their own power. One of the challenges is not all leaders speak up for their teams or themselves. A strong leader needs to portray confidence in expression especially while taking on challenges. If leaders aren't expressing themselves, they typically fall back into the trap of control and leading more with intimidation which leads to suppression of the team and limits growth and new possibilities.

Final Thoughts:

When you express yourself creativity and vulnerability in all your relationships you become a better partner, friend, and leader and find your way to the path of personal freedom. The way to freedom of bold self-expression is with a coach. This isn't a do-it-on-your-own adventure. It's a journey of co-creation that requires a lot of practice in a safe space environment to explore emotions and feelings from a judgment-free awareness perspective, especially emotions that have been suppressed. Because, as humans, the way we express ourselves is by creating as we speak. When we're speaking our truth and being ourselves, that’s when we feel the freest and alive. It will take some up-leveling of your beliefs, and role-playing of influential conversations to really become confident and the next best bold version you imagined.
