How Blister Packaging is Revolutionizing the Healthcare Industry

Blister packaging is a type of packaging that is widely used in the retail and pharmaceutical industries to package small consumer goods. It involves the use of a plastic or aluminum blister, which is heat-sealed to a cardboard backing. The blister packaging industry encompasses the manufacturing, design, and distribution of blister packaging materials and equipment.

According to market research, the global?blister packaging market size?is expected to reach $34.1 billion by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 7.2% by 2025. This growth is primarily driven by the pharmaceutical industry, which is the largest end-user of blister packaging.

"Thermoforming is the largest technology segment"

Thermoforming is the largest technology segment of the blister packaging market. #thermoforming is a manufacturing process that involves heating a plastic sheet until it becomes pliable and then forming it into a desired shape using a mold. The process is widely used in the manufacturing of blister packaging for various industries, including pharmaceuticals, #foodandbeverage , and #consumergoods.

Thermoforming is preferred over other technologies, such as cold forming and heat sealing, due to its efficiency, speed, and cost-effectiveness. It allows for the production of large quantities of blister packaging in a short amount of time, making it ideal for mass production.

The growth of the thermoforming segment of the blister packaging market is being driven by several factors, including the increasing demand for convenient and tamper-evident packaging in the pharmaceutical industry, the rise of e-commerce, and the growing demand for sustainable packaging materials.

"Carded is the largest type segment"

The largest type segment of the blister packaging market depends on the specific industry and region. However, carded blister packaging is one of the most commonly used types of blister packaging, particularly in the consumer goods and retail industries.

Carded blister packaging involves placing a product into a pre-formed plastic blister that is then heat-sealed to a paperboard card. The card is usually printed with product information, branding, and marketing messages, making it a popular choice for retail packaging.

"Plastic films is the largest material segment"

Plastic films are the largest material segment of the blister packaging market. Plastic films such as PVC, PET, and PP are commonly used in the manufacturing of blister packaging due to their versatility, transparency, and durability.

PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) is one of the most widely used materials in blister packaging due to its ability to form easily, its clarity, and its low cost. However, there are concerns about the environmental impact of PVC, as it is not biodegradable and can release harmful chemicals when incinerated.

PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) is a popular alternative to PVC, as it is more environmentally friendly and recyclable. It is also more durable than PVC, making it ideal for packaging products that require a longer shelf life.

PP (Polypropylene) is another popular material used in blister packaging. It is lightweight, durable, and heat-resistant, making it ideal for packaging products that require high-temperature sterilization.

"Healthcare is the largest end-use sector segment"

Healthcare is the largest end-use sector segment of the blister packaging market. Blister packaging is widely used in the healthcare industry for packaging pharmaceutical products such as tablets, capsules, and pills.

Blister packaging provides several benefits in the healthcare industry, including increased product protection, improved tamper evidence, and enhanced patient compliance. Blister packaging also helps in reducing medication errors and improving inventory management.

Apart from healthcare, blister packaging is also used in other industries such as food and beverage, consumer goods, and industrial goods. In the food industry, blister packaging is used for packaging products such as fresh produce, meat, and cheese. In the consumer goods industry, blister packaging is used for packaging products such as toys, electronics, and personal care items.

"APAC is the fastest-growing market for the blister packaging market"

Asia-Pacific (#apac ) is the fastest-growing market for the blister packaging market. The APAC region is witnessing a high demand for blister packaging, driven by the increasing population, rising disposable income, and growing demand for convenient and tamper-evident packaging solutions.

The major countries contributing to the growth of the blister packaging market in the APAC region include China, India, Japan, and South Korea. These countries have a large population and a growing middle class, which is driving the demand for consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, and other products that use blister packaging.

Though PVC is cost effective and easily thermoformable material, it is loosing its popularity these days as it has a low heat stability and it's processing releases toxic, chlorine-based chemicals. It is banned in Canada, Spain, South Korea and the Czech Republic. It should essentially be BPA free to be used for food or Pharma applications.
