?Most data analyst refers to big data as a huge volume of data, maybe larger than terabytes or even petabytes. It should be noted that there is no specific volume attached to classify a data as big data. The International Journal of Engineering Research & Technology (IJERT)?defined big data as?a large volume of unstructured data which cannot be handled by standard database management systems like DBMS, RDBMS or ORDBMS.?In big data analytics, 80% of the data are always unstructured; as the name implies, this kind of data are not organized in any form.??
THE FOUR V'S EXPLAINED
VOLUME : The name big data itself contains a term which means large in size or volume , but having a large size of data doesn't mean you are working with big data.
VARIETY : variety in big data shows that this kind of data is collected across multiple sources in different formats, different units, and different structures.
VELOCITY : velocity in this context refers to how fast the data is generated and processed; every second, on average, around 6,000 tweets are tweeted on Twitter, corresponding to over 350,000 tweets sent per minute, 500 million tweets per day and around 200 billion tweets per year.
VERACITY : The word veracity originates from verax, which means ‘speaking truly’, and veracity represents “conformity with truth or fact”. So, veracity in big data refers to how much the data conform and how accurate and precise the data is. In other words, the data veracity definition checks the quality of the data. It is the level or the intensity by which the data is reliable, consistent, accurate, and trustworthy.
THE FUTURE
Big data comes from Moore's law, which is the principle that the?capability of computers can be expected to double every two years. This will lead to the rise of massive datasets generated by millions of computers.
According to statistics,?roughly 36.8% of all the people on Earth use Facebook today. Based on this, one can only imagine the billions of data generated everyday, which is even likely to go higher in the coming years.
