Here's a secret that you may not know about insurance agents and the carriers they work with.
Not everyone has access to every insurance carrier. AND! Carriers will only work with ONE agent at a time.
So, the first person who gets their quote submission in wins.
Now, what does mean for you?
It means that if you are starting a business or reevaluating your agent partnership here's a few questions to ask:
- What insurance carriers do you have who are actively working in my industry?
- Who are some other clients of yours that are in my industry?
- What are the top issues that my insurance should be handling for me?
- Other than providing insurance, how else can you help me protect my business?
What do these question help you answer?
- If agents are limited in their options, or have the same options there may not be any value to moving
- Agents who work in your type of business on a regular basis understand the application process and can make it quick and easy
- You need to make sure the insurance policy is handling the most likely disasters
- Prevent disaster. Control them when they strike. THEN, insure it. If your agent is doing nothing more than getting you a policy then you are getting shortchanged.
