Beyoncé's recent release of "Break My Soul" has the internet and the Beyhive abuzz. The summer anthem is a nod to the Great Resignation and summarizes worker burnout to catchy house beats and fiery vocals.?
?While the takeaways from this explosive dance track are endless, there’s one lesson we can all learn as leaders in our organizations.?A true shift starts within.?
In the song, Beyoncé speaks to finding her motivation and building a new foundation. This demonstrates both ideation and, most importantly, implementation. Let’s face it, there’s no shortage of ideas in companies. In fact, we probably have more ideas than we can realistically implement on any given day.
What many organizations lack is not creativity but the action that puts creativity to work. As leaders, we must take a cue from Mrs.Knowles-Carter at building a new foundation for innovation in our organizations. In order to truly innovate, we need to marry ideas with actions.?
Once a creative idea is submitted, it should immediately be followed up with high-level considerations on risks, cost, and who would be responsible for making the concept into reality. Without creativity and innovation, organizations would crumble. However, without a plan to implement, creative ideas become burdensome and even counterproductive.
One framework that supports this process is?participatory design . Not only does this technique allow leaders to invite change and innovation into the design or meeting process, it provides an opportunity to assign ownership and responsibility.?
When organizations have trouble creating the structures needed for successful ideation and implementation, more and more are seeking support from?innovation consultants . A business innovation consultant is a professional adviser with the skills to analyze the business from an external perspective and guide it towards its goals.?
Need help building a new foundation for your organization? With Beyoncé blaring in the background, we recommend you explore our?free Start Within-themed templates . 2 年This is an excellent article, Doug. So much resonated with me. The ability to innovate directly impacts an organization's competitive advantage. I've seen so many creative ways to innovate, even at the team level, that just sit in the backlog. What is lacking is the knowledge of how to turn concepts into reality as well as prioritizing doing so! Participatory design is a great answer and we as Agile Coaches and Scrum Masters can influence lead the effort to radiate this knowledge to decisions makers and teams. I can't wait to learn more!
