How being a freelancer can help you in this pandemic in 5 different ways

With the global pandemic all around, the demand for freelancers has increased exponentially. The new digital era has given the liberty for everyone to work remotely. Millennials and Genz workers are very attracted to have a freelancing career choice. According to a survey done by the online platform flexjobs, it was stated that the younger generation is more likely to work remote jobs with the comfort of their home rather than being stuck in an office job.

It's not just the employee preference but the employers around the world can also be seen as attracted towards it. According to Forbes, managers are 47% more likely to hire someone for a remote job. It has been predicted that the number of freelance jobs will double by the end of 2025. These jobs include freelance writer, graphic designer, social media marketer, and a variety of other skills that can be performed with ease of staying at home and using a laptop and an internet connection.

Let's take a look at how being a freelancer can help you in 5 different ways in this pandemic.

The flexibility of hours.

Being a freelancer doesn't mean being able to work at any time according to your choice but instead, it can be a way to find the best way possible to have a work-life balance. Sometimes the work may extend to 12 hours in a day and sometimes it can be just about doing small kinds of stuff that could take a couple of hours. It all depends on the individual how much work he can promise and get done in a particular time interval.

Freelancing allows you to take time off whenever you need but of course, it might affect your work but the freedom of choice is in your hands not in your employer's hand.

Hence it depends on you how many hours you want to work.

Less fear in the world of layoffs

Millions of people all around the world have lost their jobs to this pandemic, the reason is simple, being dependent on the company to do work and get a salary at the end of the month. While a freelancer is also not immune to being replaceable but taking time to learn monetizable skills and constantly improving in it can decrease the chances of it.

Being a freelancer gives a sense of independence, though it doesn't offer job security. You can always work for multiple people in a month and if some of your gigs didn't give results you always have other options to make money from other gigs. The control of your ability to be able to earn lies in your hand, the economic meltdown doesn't affect you, if you are willing to put in the work and have a skill that can provide value to a business you can always use it to earn living for yourself

Having discipline in life

Since you are your boss, your habits can affect your business in many ways. The drawback of being a freelancer is that there is no one to motivate you when you are feeling low or scold you when you are wasting time and not doing your work but instead of taking it as a drawback, it can allow you to learn self-discipline in life. Having discipline in life is very crucial for being productive and using the time in hand in the most optimal way possible. Freelancing teaches you to become independent and now the responsibility settles down on your shoulders. If you become undisciplined and are not willing to put in the work you will lose in your freelance journey and hence it is important to learn this aspect of life.

Becoming a better business person

Freelancing is business, you have clients to work with, to fulfill their needs, you have your own income goals that you want to reach. It's not a job where the power of increased salary lies in the hands of your employer. The more hard work you do in a business the more you will earn.

the sense of being your boss gives you freedom since you are only answerable to yourself. It helps in improving the art of self-management.

If you are good at managing yourself the sky's the limit. You can always improve yourself to get the best result possible by applying effective measures in your life that can directly be seen in your business.

Far away from office politics

Office politics can be a mess most of the time. No matter how hard you are working to achieve a goal, if you don't have a good connection with your boss things might not turn out the way you want them to, cause the power to get ahead is not really in your hand, getting a promotion might be more dependant on how much you make your boss happy instead of how much work you are putting in the task. Employee harassment is not a new thing however things are getting better but it is nowhere near becoming extinct.

Being a freelancer allows you to stay away from any kind of office politics. There is no one to please, it is only your work that can help you to get ahead.

The sense of freedom to work from anywhere around the world, to work with people from different countries around the globe, and earn valuable lessons from them makes it a very attractive career.

Of course, it has its drawbacks like having no insurance benefits, unpredictable payment cycle, unpaid work, getting scammed online, etc but if you have the skills that are in demand around the world, that can help you to earn money with the comfort being in your home, then it might be the best choice for you.
