How To Become Wealthy With Government Contracts In 2025

I recently had a chat with Sheena Parker. She’s an amazing veteran, business owner, and a government contractor. Sheena went from knowing nothing about federal contracts to running a successful business.

During our conversation she shared how she started out, won her first few contracts, and kept going. Her story shows what happens when you don’t give up.

How Sheena Got Started

Sheena wasn’t planning to get into government contracting. She was working in real estate, fixing and managing houses. But she realized being a landlord wasn’t for her, so she sold her properties and stuck to the renovation side of things.

At the same time, she worked full-time as a software engineer and served in the military reserves. One day, at a holiday party, someone asked her, “Have you ever thought about government contracting?”

Sheena didn’t even know what that meant, but it got her curious. That night, she started researching online. She came across a video from Eric Coffie, who made it all make sense.

Her First Contract

Sheena decided to try bidding on a contract, even though she didn’t know much about it. Her first contract was for floor waxing, and she won.

But winning wasn’t the hard part. She had severely underbid. The job needed $20,000 upfront for materials, but she didn’t have the money.

Still, she found a way to renegotiate the terms and make it work. She learned two big lessons:

  1. You don’t have to know everything to start.
  2. Being creative and solving problems is important.

Gaining Momentum

After that first contract, Sheena kept going. Her second job was fixing floors at local fire stations, a six-figure project. She submitted her bid on her birthday, and winning felt like the best gift. Her third contract was for janitorial services, and by then, she knew she was onto something.

What She Learned

Sheena shared some great tips from her experience:?

  • Start with what you know. She stuck to contracts in areas like real estate and cleaning, where she already had experience.
  • Don’t be afraid to start. Sheena didn’t wait for the “perfect” time. She started, made mistakes, and learned.
  • Build good relationships. Networking and proving your value are important in this business.

Winning Big

In 2021, after months of bidding without winning anything, Sheena hit a streak. In one week, she won six contracts! It was a lot to handle, but it showed her that staying persistent works.

Now, she focuses on janitorial services, floor repairs, and facility management. She’s learned to outsource the things she doesn’t like and focus on what she’s great at.

Her Advice

When asked what people should stop doing, Sheena had three main points:

  1. Don’t overthink it. Start bidding, even if you don’t feel 100% ready.
  2. Stick to what you know. Don’t try to jump into something completely new.
  3. Find help when you need it. Use free resources or hire someone to help with tasks you struggle with.
