How to Become a Travel Influence

How to Become a Travel Influence

Only a few short years ago, the idea of being paid to stay at hotels, getting free airfare and getting comped dinner all just to talk about your experience seemed absolute Crazy with a capital C.

But nowadays, being a digital creator for the travel industry is an actual real career and one that I bet most of us would like to have.

Don’t lie to me, every time you come back from vacation you’re sad. In fact, while you’re there you’re thinking “how can I leave my life back home and move here full time” but of course, work and responsibilities always make this concept a non-starter.

But what if you could? Would you? How would you do it? Well this week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Claudia Nieroda who runs the infamous instagram account @thelosttwo. Claudia shared with me her secrets on how she and her husband Kaan, went from Server and Chartered Accountant, respectively, to full-time globetrotters.

Here’s what they had to share:

  1. If you’re not passionate about your work, now is the time to start thinking about a career change. It’s never too late, in fact, today is as good a day as any to live a life you love and deserve!
  2. Start posting today. Regardless of the niche you’re in, you need to post. This means you have to stop worrying about your hair, your makeup, your body, your voice, and whether or not you have any credibility. Stop delaying!!!
  3. Be consistent. Claudia recalled posting EVERY SINGLE DAY for 2 years until they got any traction so the answer is NO, your weekly post isn’t gonna cut it.
  4. Have a backup plan. You may have to keep your job before you can make things work financially through content so be sure to not burn any bridges on your way out the door as you never know if you’ll need to come crawling back with your tail between your legs. Also, it’s a great idea to put some money away so that you have some financial runway to push through the ups and downs.
  5. Say YES! You may not know of a certain brand and even worse, you might not know what the outcome of a certain partnership will be, but say YES anyway. Who knows, it might take 10 tries before you hit a whale!
  6. Grow thick skin. Unfortunately, trolling comes with the territory which means people may point out your flaws. This could be your looks, your knowledge, your storytelling skills, heck anything! Yes it will hurt so prepare yourself for that and then continue to post anyway.
  7. Be prepared to work hard. It might look easy but content creation is a full-time job with no days off. Given that you’re only as good as your next brand collaboration, it’s imperative that you don’t let bad days stop you from working. Remember, NO DAYS OFF.
