Tech product management is one of the sexiest roles around. But I have bad news if you want to become a PM: you can’t (generally) be hired into a product management position if you haven’t “done product before”.

7 年I was hired as Vendor Management/negotiating the contracts for IT projects and when I saw people on a Project Management level struggling I offered to help (I had negotiated the deal to begin with and already had a very senior level rapport that cut to the chase scene and allowed solution) and next thing you know I inherited all problem projects, problem vendor relationships, cutting edge and critical projects (often projects from the Board Room and both with high potential for failure in environments that do not allow for such). And, I was asked to be the Agile Evangelist as I was "agile to my core" and a solid lobbyist for such. And, I was asked to be the Facilitator as I was quick to identify the problem, the potential path, and could negotiate such. And, ....
