How to Become Oprah [An Afterword]
The Opportunity Made Newsletter offers practical lessons to break patterns, get unstuck, and find freedom.
In each article of Opportunity Made, you'll find empowering insights and easy-to understand takeaways that can transform your life.
If you had to pick a role model, there's a high probability you'd pick Oprah. Born poor and with the odds against her, Oprah is an esteemed human being.
For years, I've wanted to become like her.
Who doesn't?
Whether you're drawn by her fame, finances, influence, or generosity and spirit, there's something desirable about her. She's a great measuring stick for "made it".
In efforts to articulate a replicable path to her success, many folks have written "How To" guides on this incredible TV icon, such as this one.
It's true good things do take time [Oprah's career was born over 15 years], but as more time passes, I realize I don't want good things.
Not some of the good things that path leads to anyways...
As writer Sabina Wex mentions in her article on Oprah, desiring success needs to have a reason.
Why do you want to be successful? And because is not an answer.
With every new beginning, it's always good to asses why your life filled with the current commitments? Where is your drive coming from? Is there a who behind the what?
I've accomplished a lot with because in the driver's seat. But it always kept me striving for the next thing. I'd take on another commitment, job, project and drive myself over the edge of what was reasonable for the size of one's plate.
Why?
Because. ??♀?

...
Because why not? Because I can.
Because if I don't I'll disappoint; I won't "make it" and I'll be a failure.
Maybe Oprah is not your person. Maybe it's Tony Robbins, Joe Rogan, or someone else successful. Regardless, we all desire fame, fortune, and a secure lifestyle where our needs are met and we can positively impact the world.
I'm with you. Those things are natural and hard not to want.
Yet as of late, (being real here) due to an acceptance of Jesus Christ, because is no longer enough of a driver and the good things one gains by following a desirable path of success are no longer desirable.
My desires have changed from:
The results are ongoing peace, a settled quiet mind, a feeling of dignity and life changes to match, and freedom from chaos, worthlessness, and selfish ambition.
I have to say, I never thought my heart could given up these BIG desires, given I grew up for years being told I'd become the next Oprah ??, but this life is a better version than any I've ever experienced.
And the need to search is no longer there. Completely gone.
If you're tired of trying to "make it" and want to stop searching, let's chat.
I love humble moments to share testimony.
