You Deserve To Understand The Job Search Process
5-time Job Search Veteran Shares All
Transforming Your Confusing, Frustrating Experience
Into A Clearly Understood Path To Your Next Job.
In many ways our current system leaves jobseekers at a disadvantage. HR, Hiring Managers and Recruiters all have significant hiring experience. While the jobseeker stands alone, usually with no jobseeking experience; shell-shocked by the pink slip and vulnerable.
The purpose of this book is to level the playing field. Level the playing field by giving you everything I've learned through my jobseeker experience as well as what I've learned from other subject matter experts. Most importantly, this book is written by a fellow jobseeker who understands exactly what you are going through.
I was in the job market 5 times.
1.) In ’89, my final year at school, I sent 60 resumes out, most didn’t respond, those who did sent rejection letters. I didn’t know what would happen until an on-campus interview. Thankfully, the recruiter was impressed and I was hired.
2.) In ’95, my division was up for sale. We were told most of our jobs would eventually be eliminated. Some lost their jobs immediately. Thankfully I didn’t. After scanning the Corp jobs system, I found the perfect match and was hired.
3.) In ’02, my division restructured. My boss and I and many others lost their jobs. I went off payroll. I had no idea what the future held. One Friday afternoon my old employer called. They needed my social. It was then I learned my interview 2 weeks ago converted to a job.
4.) In ’10, during the Great Recession everyone in my division from the Sr. VP to my boss and I lost our jobs over a 12 months period. I was off payroll almost 6 months. Thankfully, God gave me the smarts to get referrals that led to interviews and a great job in a great department.
5.) In ’12 while struggling through the recession and a shrinking market for my employer’s products, my job was eliminated again. I spoke to 100 separate people at my employer, but there were no jobs this time.
We relocated to FL thinking that was the reason FL employers weren’t responding to my apps. It wasn’t.
It wasn’t until I started working, six month later, in a short-term contractor role at FL salaries that I started getting bites.
Thankfully, the contractor role lasted until the Friday before I started work at a new, very well-run company, where I work now.
Few Things Are As Complex As Landing A Job
One of the things that kept me hired when everyone else was losing their jobs and got me hired after I lost mine, was I liked mastering complex things. Except for nuclear physics and interstellar space travel, there are few things as complex as landing a job.
In spite of that, this was a nut I was determined to crack. With my wife homeschooling our kids, I had little choice, I had to solve this puzzle. I was committed. Thankfully, I always did a lot of praying. Its not me getting the job. I had help.
More To Come
I will share more with you as I write the book.
