??How to become a Game Changer - Part 2

Last week we talked about habits and learnings from many leaders on how to become a game-changer and create high-performance habits. Some of the below insights are based on Brendon Burchard's High-Performance Habits.

We touched on the first 3 principles that focus mostly on internal development: 1. Seek Next level clarity, 2. Generate energy to get going, 3. Raise necessity (own your Why).

This week is about the external focus:

  1. Increase production
  2. Develop influence
  3. Demonstrate courage

In short: We take the clarity around whom you want to be and your goals, and start to make them happen. We use it to add meaning and authenticity to your own and other people's lives. Let's dive in:

  1. Increase production

In short: Set personally meaningful goals. Create focus and energy to spend 60% of your workweek on these goals.

The underlying point is to focus on your top priorities and what really matters. Most of us know this, but we forget it along the way, we start to compromise, we 3end up taking other people's priorities, we commit to too much.

Therefore, find goals that have emotional meaning to it in order to improve energy and motivation. This is the secret to high achievers. It can be meaningful to just one other person, and that might already be enough for you get going.

Questions to check with yourself:

  • How do you measure success? Are you measuring hours, money, work-life balance, happiness, and progress? I measure how many lives I radically change to be more authentic. And how many waves I surfed (literally) each year.
  • If there were only 5 moves/stages/steps necessary to reach your biggest, truly meaningful goal, what would they be?

2. Develop influence

This was for me personally (and still is) quite a stretch. I was not sure what to do with this until a few months ago. Developing influence does not mean to manipulate others to do your own stuff.

It's the next level of maturity in your leadership and development journey. After you have done your homework, know why and what you do with clarity and productivity, it is time to extend this to support, challenge and lead others. To teach people how to think through mindset shifts and different frameworks

To start this process, use these 3 questions to get more clarity of how you want to show up in the world - rooted in authenticity and upholding an ideal you want to develop into:

  • How do you want to think about yourself?
  • How do you want to think about the world?
  • How do you want to think about others?

Taking this a step further, you will see yourself grow in confidence and then challenging others to uphold their own values, walk their own talk. This can feel confrontational when you communicate your own and others' expectations clearly. It's about sharing bold challenges with others to raise them up by raising the bar.

And don't forget: Role model what you want to see.

3. Demonstrate Courage

Courage is mastery of fear, not the absence of fear. It means speaking up when its hard, taking action in uncertainty, responding quickly to life's challenges

This often means to show the world who you truly are, authentically and unapologetically. It also means to tell the world what you want, and the world will help you achieve it. You will be surprised what some courage, stepping over the edge and outside of your comfort zone can change in your life.

Ask yourself: What does living a more courageous life mean for you? Define this in quite some detail and then start living that way. Take small steps towards this. Everyday action is what will get you there.

The most high-performing leaders know exactly why they do things. And their why is usually a person. Just one, not a huge group or population - just one person they feel eternally connected to.

Find your own why, that person or cause, and use it as fuel to create the life you want.
