How to be an employer of choice
In today's competitive labour market for an organization to position themselves strategically and attract the right talents, they need to become an Employer of choice. In a simple definition, An employer of choice is the employer that workers choose to work for when presented with other employment choices Geraldine (2020). This means that they must have a compelling culture and leadership style that attracts and retains the best talent.
Higgs (2004) model identified four types of employers,
1- Employee of Cash: offers good pay but have a bad work environment,
2- Employee of Value: have a great work environment but pays less,
3- Employee of Churn: bad pay and bad work environment.
The previously mentioned organizations find it very hard to hire and retain talents while
4- Employee of choice where employees have fair pay and excellent work environment have a much easier job to retains and attract good talent.
Some of the characteristics of employers of choice are:

An organization's employee value proposition (EVP) is what sets it apart from other organizations, it can be defined as a set of values that employees can rely on to make their work experience better and more satisfying. Aside from financial factors, non-financial factors such as employee engagement, work-life balance, career progression can also be included Anne morris (2020).
by becoming an employer of choice, Organizations will be able to improve their position in the labour market, build an employer brand and remain ahead of competitors, through developing retention strategies and plans to retain the top talents. Having higher retention rates, the organization will reduce the cost of recruitment.
Another benefit of being an employer of choice is having a high level of morale that increases employee engagement and productivity. It also helps develop a healthy and attractive workplace culture for both current and potential talents.
