How to Become a Digital Marketing Professional

How to Become a Digital Marketing Professional

Here is the Portuguese version.

Silicon Valley Startup — Udacity — in the area of education, was already known in the IT arena for its nanodegrees: a kind of mini-graduation designed to train people according to the needs of the technology market.

The Nanodegree Digital Marketing course began on April 10 in Brazil, a comprehensive area with a lot of demand for qualified workforce.

The course is brand new and offers an online specialization program in Digital Marketing, in collaboration with industry leaders such as Google, Facebook, HubSpot, HootSuite, Moz, and MailChimp. Graduates in this program present a valuable understanding of key digital marketing strategies, techniques, and tools. Nanodegree is an online course lasting three months.

The partnership of the course with the main players in the market, the powerful name in the industry allied to an aggressive publicity campaign, moved with a lot of people. The course continues to be widely publicized and dozens of people ask if it’s really worth it. I was one of those who entered in April and below I tell a little of that experience.

Real Campaigns

During the Nanodegree, you will develop eight projects, putting into practice everything you have learned. Every project you undertake will be reviewed by digital marketing experts so you are sure to be absorbing everything this program offers.

One of the differentials of Nanodegree is that in some projects, you will place actual ads in the air like Facebook Ads and Google Adwords Search and Display. Your ad will serve to real consumers, and you’ll be able to understand the conversion of each campaign you’ve generated.

At the end of Nanodegree, you will have a complete portfolio of projects to show the market all your skills.

Nanodegree Strengths

The advantage of Udacity’s nanodegree is to be comprehensive, fast and didactic. It goes through the main pillars of digital marketing from content marketing, social media, SEO, SEM, email marketing, display campaigns and others. It is around course that will give the student an overview of the good practices of the market.

The dynamic works like this: there are nine modules and each module has a series of short, direct videos, with examples and tooltips to make the job easier. All classes are completed with a short quiz that tests your understanding of the content. Each section of Nanodegree is followed by a hands-on project that involves healing content and running own campaigns.

All instructors have significant industry experience. Reviewers provide constructive criticism of all activities, including many tips for improvements and suggesting various approaches to deconstruct a particular problem and if it has not met some requirement, the indication to redo it.

Improve to win. Ever!

Initially, they gave 24 hours to do this review. My first projects that I delivered, took more than 2 weeks in the Udacity review process.

The startup says it is registering more project reviewers to speed up the process. Truth! The last project I submitted was reviewed within 2 days.

There was a promise that students would have access to mentors who would help with inquiries throughout the course. This was not fulfilled in the classes that opened in Brazil.

What there is is a group on Slack, the official channel of communication between startup and students and a group on WhatsApp that gives us access to course coordinators in the country. They do the middle ground between the students and the company. In the groups, the students have doubts between them.

So, is it better to do it or not?

Course errors, incidentally, are typical of newly launched products. Like every startup, it is necessary to launch, iterate, and improve continuously. I believe this is the current stage of the course for Brazil.

I’m sure every investment I made was worth every penny. The networking through Udacity groups is priceless and the structuring of the course, didactics, tools, and contact with professionals from Brazil and the world.

In addition, you’ll leave with a handful of projects ready for the portfolio.

Students who successfully complete all program requirements receive their Nanodegree Certificate. This is mine!

So, what was your experience? Still, have questions about whether or not to participate in nanodegree?

Let’s Interact! Feel free to comment, enjoy and post the post so that more people can read :)
