When starting your business or starting out in the world of online marketing it can seem daunting to get started and position yourself as an authority in your industry. You know that you need to bring in clients to pay your bills and that potential clients need to know who you are and trust what you are saying to buy from you.
So how do you do that? Here are 6 ways to position yourself as an authority in your industry.
Put your Customers First
Many entrepreneurs think that their prospective customers care about who they are, but for the most part, this isn’t true. The only thing your customer really cares about is themselves and how they are going to solve their problem.
To build your authority, you need to be the solution to their problem. This means finding their pain points, dwelling on them and then positioning yourself as the ONLY solution to those problems. Avoid talking too much about you or your company, this will muddle the importance of what they are actually looking for.
Solve your Customer Problems
I have said it before, but I will say it again. Create Consistent Content! A great way for you to be seen as an authority is to create content that your potential clients would be looking for.
People take in information in 3 ways:
- They read it
- They listen to it
- They watch it.
Find what medium is right for you and stick to it. By creating consistent, valuable content that solves their problems you will naturally be seen as an authority. My favourite way of doing this is through videos! To learn more about why video marketing is so valuable check out this video here.
Build your Network
Make a list of other popular websites, blogs, podcasts, YouTube Channels, etc in your industry. These are the sites that your ideal clients are visiting on a regular basis so reach out to the owners of these sites to see if you could collaborate together or if you could be a guest speaker on their platform. If they say yes, this can increase your audience size and create more authority for your audience and theirs.
Provide Quick Wins
It's very easy for your potential customers to feel overwhelmed with their problem, that is why it’s important to provide quick wins for them to help them feel supported and gain trust with you being the solution to their problem. For example, if you are a personal trainer you could provide a quick 7-day challenge for waking up with more energy that would solve a tiny bit of their problem, provide them with a quick win and keep them coming back for more.
Showcase Client Testimonials
Regardless of what business you are in, this is an effective strategy. Our clients are looking for results and solutions to their problems. So, if you can show that you have provided results to other clients they will automatically trust you more to solve their problem as well.
Create Demand
Urgency is one of the best ways to gain momentum in your marketing. We have seen it done a million times before. “Doors are closing” or “Get a second one free if you purchase before “X” date”. The key to Urgency in your marketing is to make sure that it is real urgency and not fake. Your followers will see right through this if it’s not true, and it could potentially ruin your reputation online.
Becoming an expert in your industry doesn’t have to be complicated. If you take an interest in your audience, find their problems, pains and show that you can solve those problems through your marketing your audience will naturally seel you out for a solution.
