How To Beat Writer's Block

Don’t Be At A Loss For Words
Even the best, most well-known writers may sit down in front of a blank page on their computer screen and be at a loss for words.
But here’s why you don’t ever have to suffer the same fate.
Let’s break down what content really is. It’s a fancy word for stuff you’re creating in your medium of choice to help potential clients and customers learn something that will help them. It might vary a bit in that maybe your content is meant to entertain and not teach. Nevertheless, your content is there to be consumed by your ideal avatar.
Now on to writing content. Chances are, and I’m going to go out on a limb here, you know something about what you do. In fact, you likely know a lot about what you do. Some might even dare to call you an expert, right?
You Are The Authority
So, as an expert, you’re likely thinking about what you do all day and maybe even dreaming about it. (I still have nightmares about being on the radio and I can’t read the words that are on the news article in front of me). Suffice it to say that whatever your profession is, it’s heavily ingrained in you and your subconscious.
If I asked you right now to tell me what your clients’ biggest problem is, couldn’t you answer that in a heartbeat?
If I asked you to give me 5 tips to help me use your product better, could you?
If I wanted you to give me 10 reasons that I need your help, wouldn’t that be pretty easy for you to do?
Now, I’m pretty sure you see where I’m going with this. The content is already inside you. You just need to let it out. It’s not as though you’re a fiction writer and you’re having to come up with character development and story arcs. This is your bread and butter. You just have to put it on paper, so to speak.
Now you may say that while you have all that information inside you, you just don’t know how to get it out.
To that I say, planning will help.
Come Up With A Topic
Let’s go back to your client’s biggest problem that you know how to solve. Say that’s going to be the subject of your blog article. Perhaps, you’re a business coach and your clients all have the problem that they are just stuck in a mindset of negativity and they don’t think they’ll ever be successful.
Plot 5 points to discuss this issue more in detail.
- Where the mindset comes from.
- Why it’s just a mindset and not reality.
- The steps necessary to break free from the mindset.
- What they can expect once they are no longer stuck in said mindset.
- How you can be of service to them going forward.
Elaborate
You’ve got the basics of what you’ll be writing about fill in the meat of your work. Tell stories, give advice, provide good, relevant information. Then finish it off with a call to action. Boom. You’re done, and writer’s block is a thing of the past.
Map Out Your Content
You’ll find that when it comes to content, planning is essential. Since I’m a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kinda gal I’ve had to really work hard at sticking to a schedule and a content calendar. Of course, when things happen in the world, the content you planned to create might become obsolete or incredibly tone-deaf. So always make sure that what you’re putting out in the world provides value.
