This holiday season you may find yourself surrounded by good food, great company and an appreciation for all you have.
Truth be told, getting into the right mentality starts NOW… not after the holidays.
As a recovering sugar addict I still have to keep myself in check EVERY DAY so I don't go off the rails during the holiday season.
I know that refined sugar can do that. And that's a rabbit hole I consciously don't go down anymore!
And while I prefer to thrive during the holidays…sometimes it does feel like survival doesn’t it??
Here are some of the ways I keep the emotional eating at bay…
? During the week, eat foods you ENJOY, not foods you think you “should” be eating to maintain your weight or that will keep calories down.
When we deprive ourselves all week, it sets up all those holiday gatherings to feel like the “it’s time to let loose and give in” and that’s when we overdo it and pay the price in our waistlines and for sure energy. ??
I know for me I care more about the company and great conversation than I do about the food. When I make that my focus I never seem to overeat.
? Take extra special care of yourself every day.
This is not the time of year to leave the relaxation and unwinding to the weekends. Weekends aren't relaxing so you've gotta know that now and make self care a daily habit.
And don't overthink it.
Self care can change every day depending on your schedule. For me it looks like doing a meditation if I wake up earlier enough to do one or I pause mid day and make a cup of tea- something so quick and simple yet it can get overlooked so quickly as a smart idea.
? Choose whole foods when in a rush and when you want to grab + go!

If you're wondering what snacking has to do with emotional eating and the anxiety many women get after eating sugar let me make that connection for you today. You see the things you eat affect your mind more than we give food credit for.:
? Be your own advocate.
That looks like:
** If you know a certain food doesn't make you feel good the next day don't eat it regardless of whose company you are in that might object or comment.?
** Give a heads up to the host or hostess that you've got some dietary restrictions before you go and ask about the menu.
** While at a gathering if you have a drink limit that you know makes you feel good the next day state it to yourself or whomever you're with to keep yourself accountable.
? Don't let yourself go hungry to "save on calories". It brings up a real physiological response in the body that causes you to eat anything and everything!!
I can not stress enough having stabilized blood sugar levels helps give you more control of what you eat and drink.
It's when we've been "good all day" and have been "saving our calories" that our minds mess with us and we give in and indulge and then once that happens there is no shutting off the valve.
With all that said, don’t forget to kick back and ENJOY your holiday’s GUILT FREE.
