How to Balance It All

How to Balance It All

I recently was struggling with a topic for my first article on Linkedin when I met with a dear client of mine who I first spoke with back when I was 15 as a telemarketer for my former boss. It has now been 6 years of working with my client and she stated "I have watched you grow but I must admit, how do you do it all?"

That's when it hit me. This wasn't the first time a client, colleague, college professor and even friend has asked me how do I juggle working full time, going to school full time while making time for my family, maintaining a social life, staying fit and remodeling my new home.

Balance is definitely key when it comes to trying to separate your work life from your social life. With that being said Jana Kingsford once stated "Balance is not something you find, it's something you create." I live by this quote; I cannot tell you the amount of times I will catch myself right before going to bed replying to my work emails which then cause me to linger in bed not being able to sleep due to all the tasks I was now pondering.

I then put myself on a schedule, no more work after 6pm unless it's urgent which means my clients have my cell where they can call/text me with anything needing to be resolved right away.

Working and studying full time is not impossible, many people have and continue to do this. I am now graduating December 14th with my bachelors in Marketing at the age of 21 and as of September I hit the $1 million dollar in sales revenue for 2019. If you're making the calls, getting the appointments and keeping your pipeline with sales there's no reason why you can't close business- just put in the work!! Was it totally worth the countless cold calls or late night study/homework sessions in the FIU library, absolutely!

When I first started college I found it hard to balance it all but once you get a set up system for example; I work 8:30-5pm Monday-Friday I would go to class Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 5:40-8:20pm and Tuesday/Thursday's were meant for homework or studying when needed.

Dealing with remodeling my home while living there is no joke. I purchased a home at the beginning of 2019. I recently finished the master bedroom/bathroom and moved onto the kitchen. The kitchen has now taken about 4 months to finish... which would drive anyone mad. You have to keep reminding yourself, your dream home is at the end of this and keep pushing through. Side note: AMAZON is your best friend when remodeling and if anyone needs any references feel free to reach out to me!

Eating healthy and staying fit is a very important aspect to my life because I'm epileptic. I do have cheat days (Saturday/Sundays) but for the most part I try to eat as healthy as can be. Not having a kitchen makes that harder than usual but between family and finding healthy little restaurants, I make it work. As per staying fit, if you have a hard time finding the motivation to go to the gym after a long day at work. Try to either find a motivated gym partner or go to a fitness class like spinning, yoga, water aerobics, MMA and etc. Working out is what keeps me going after a long day- I go home stress free and ready for a good night sleep.

As per my social life, I try to go out with my friends/family on the weekends when I have more free time. Going out is another great escape but obviously everything in moderation and you get to meet new people.

I pretty much covered it all but I do want to leave you with one last note:

"Find balance in your life. Work hard but don't let work take over your life. You will lose yourself. Love, but love for the right reasons. Life is too short for anything mediocre. Know who you are and know that you are worthy of reaching your dreams that it is never too late to start creating the life you always dreamed of. Do not compare yourself to others, that's just deadly. No two souls are the same. You are your own person, you are beautiful and unique. Put your trust in the universe. Some things are just meant to happen, some are not. Let go of whatever is stealing your happiness, it's hard but it is worth. Embrace change. Embrace life. Everything happens for a reason, sometimes you just need to breathe, trust and let go." -Charlotte Freeman
