How to avoid a screen share disaster

Greetings Reader,
Have you ever been on a video call where someone’s made a bit of a blunder? Maybe they forgot to close a personal tab, accidentally revealed their browsing history, or perhaps something suspicious was lurking in the background. Whatever it might be, there’s a few simple steps you can take to stop this happening to you. And would you believe it, here they are:
1. Mute notifications
Humans are curious creatures. And no matter how interesting your slide deck might be, you know every participant is going to read a notification if it flashes up on your screen. So before your next meeting, make sure you close down any applications you don’t need. With some devices, you have a ‘Do Not Disturb’ function which blocks all notifications in one fell swoop. Bingo!
2.?Master the software
If I had a penny for every time someone said, “how do I share my screen?”, I’d have £71.39. Fair enough, not everyone is tech-savvy. But by spending a tea break sussing out your communication software, you can save yourself (and others) a lot of time. Onwards and sidewards.

3.?Close your personal tabs
Having personal tabs open can set the wrong impression with your clients and colleagues. So before you share your screen, tidy up your desktop and get rid of anything that’s not business related. As much as I like science fiction, I’m not sure my clients will want to see the tab: ‘Star Trek spoilers – Google Sea…’. What’s wrong with them?
“I wish you’d shared this info last week, Captain. It took me 6 minutes to share my screen”
I know, I was on the call. If you have any questions about IT support, get in touch with our crew . Or if you have any funny screen share stories, do let me know below.
Until the next time. ??
