How to Avoid Recruiting Scams!

According to the Better Business Bureau, recruiting scams are on the rise in 2023!

You need to be very careful when you receive a call from someone who claims to be a "Haag Recruiter" - especially if it's not me! I only partner with a few carefully chosen forensic engineering recruiters - all of whom are located in the United States. Besides their heavy technical forensic engineering recruiting expertise, my recruiting partners are thoroughly vetted to ensure that all Haag candidates receive the best customer service possible. If someone contacts you and it's not me, please be sure to identity that person and ask if they have a signed contract. You can always reach out to me directly if you're not sure.

Be extremely careful if the caller is contacting you from somewhere outside the U.S. and has poor communication skills. Even legitimate-sounding recruiters do not always represent the company he/she claims to, so be sure that the person selling you on the job opportunity is legit. The Gray Hat Recruiters are simply phishing and their goal is to use your resume as a way to "market" themselves into a company like Haag who they know is hiring, but with whom they do not have an existing relationship. They will shop your personal info everywhere, so be careful. The really bad ones - the Black Hat Recruiters - will steal your identity, your resume, your social media profiles, and your money if you're not careful.

A legitimate Recruiter will have active presence on LinkedIn with written recommendations from real people - especially from Candidates who have been successfully placed. Recruiters should have hundreds (or thousands) of connections and many followers. If you don't see connections and/or recommendations, that's a sign you have an imposter.

Forensic Engineering is a niche industry with very few experienced forensic engineering recruiters. A rookie recruiter simply cannot fill these jobs, so I am super-selective about my partnered recruiters. Retention rates are important to me, since that's a good indicator of both recruiting and candidate success.

Since early 2020, my engineering retention rate is 100% at Haag, and I'm looking to extend the streak! Don't be scammed by a fake recruiter - you have worked too hard!
