How To Avoid Putting Weight Back On After a Diet

How To Avoid Putting Weight Back On After a Diet

I'm not a big fan of diets.

Why?

Because when you introduce a new diet into your life, it’s not something you’re accustomed to and it becomes difficult to stick to it.

For instance, if I told you to go and cut out all your carbs in your diet or to go on a strict low-calorie diet, is that going to be easy for you to do? Probably not

Is it going to be something you can sustain? Probably not.

So I don't like to tell people to go on diets, because I know the chance of success in the long term is very low.

But I know some of you do go on diets, so I want to help you understand what you need for it to be successful.

I know a lot of Dads that have gone on diets and lost a lot of weight, but they can’t maintain it and default back to their old ways and put the weight back on.

So here are two ways, that can help you overcome that from happening again:

Mindset

Before you start, you first need to prepare your mind. You need to establish what you’re trying to achieve and the reasons why you want to achieve them.

The reasons need to be deep and strong enough, so that when you're faced with challenges or temptations, to eat the wrong foods, eating more than you should and drinking more than you should, particularly in social settings, what's going to stop you from doing that? What driving force force is going to stop you from doing those things?

If you don't have a strong enough reason, you're chance of giving up becomes much higher. You need to dig deep with your reasons. It can't just be superficial. It can't just be about weight loss. Weight loss is too general. It's not specific enough. It needs to be about the effect its having on your life and what it’s stopping you from doing.

Sustainability

If you go on a diet that you can't follow forever, how are you going to be able to keep that weight off for good? For instance, if you go on a shake diet, to replace meals, which can work, ask yourself if you can do that forever? Is that sustainable? What happens when you want to start having three solid meals a day? I don't see that as a sustainable long-term strategy.

If it is something you think would work long-term for you, then that's good, but I've spoken to a lot of Dads that have come off the Man Shake program and once they stopped having the shakes, they put the weight back on.

What about intermittent fasting or keto. Can you do that for the rest of your life? Does your diet allow you to enjoy the foods you love, so that you're not being miserable during the process? Because if you're miserable, I can guarantee you're not going to last more than a few months.

When you aren’t allowed to have something, what happens? You end up always thinking about it.

But when you're allowed to have it, it’s not on your mind as much and it becomes easier to manage. That’s why its important to have a more balanced approach with your food and drink choices, where you can still have some level of enjoyment yet are able to lose weight at the same time.

So get those two things right, your mindset and choose something that's going to be sustainable for the long term, for you to be able to keep that weight off and avoid putting it back on. That's what I want for you.

As a Father, it’s not just about us, it's also about your Family. We have a part to play, not just in our Families, but also in society. What happens in our homes and with our Family has an on flowing effect in society. We are the leaders of our homes. You need to be serious about your health and be that healthy role model for them.
