How to avoid getting stranded after you lose your job.

How to avoid getting stranded after you lose your job.

Many are scared of losing their job.

The fear of unexpectedly losing your source of income is present in the minds of many people who are employed.

It's actually normal… I once had such fears.

Truth be told, unless you are the sole proprietor of a business or company, you can lose your job. Even Founders of Companies lose their company and position not to talk of other employees.

You were employed, someday you may be asked to go.

Even when you’re an expert in your field and you lose your job, you may not quickly get another right away.

But bills have to be paid and if you have a family, you must provide. The worst thing that can happen to a married couple is getting stranded when a job is lost.

Many lives change negatively and you can go downward spiral when you lose your job.

But you can change the narrative. You can start now to take reasonable and conscious steps that would help you stand firm and adapt if it happens.

Let's have a look at few steps

Acquire in-demand skills that would help you thrive as a Freelancer: Do not be satisfied with what you know or can do at the moment. Seek to acquire more skills, soft and hard that can make you a versatile professional. Tech skills may be better as they are the top skills sought after. Your skills could help you get gigs on Bixex.

Start a side gig or business: Set up something of your own while working. You can hire someone to manage it for you while you supervise and keep tabs. Ensure this does not affect your current job. You can list your business on Bixex or create a business Directory on Bixex. This gives your business more visibility.

Network and Create a meaningful Relationship: Be mindful of how you treat people you meet and work with at your current place of work. Create good relationships with your Colleagues and Clients. You never can tell who may be of help when you lose your job. Network with people on platforms like Bixex, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Speak up: If you lose your job, do not hesitate to tell well meaning people in your life. Do not keep mute. Tell your friends, Mentors, and acquaintances. Indicate on your Bixex and LinkedIn profile that you're job hunting and open to new opportunities. Do not be shy to speak up.

We do not pray that you lose your job, but you must be prepared for the worst. And when you have these aforementioned steps in mind and practice them, it would hit you so hard when you lose your job and you are bound to bounce back faster.

Thank you very much for sharing such helpful and valuable content! You have described the situation I am in right now. Jobseeking for 5 months already, trying hard not to lose faith and spirit. I do understand that I just can't give up because my family relies on me. So I keep my chin up and continue my journey. Wish every jobseeker strength and self-confidence. It is going to be all right, there is a light at the end of every tunnel. Always.
