What is confirmation bias?

Confirmation bias is the tendency to process information by looking for, or interpreting, information that is consistent with one's existing beliefs. In other words: you see what you want to see.

When you have an idea for a tech startup, it’s hard not to develop a confirmation bias. You fall in love with your idea, and every problem you encounter seems to validate why your business is so good. This is extremely common when creating a tech start-up, and it can be detrimental if left unchecked.

You need to hear from your early adopters and potential customers prior to launch. This is because you’ll be asking them questions that shape their opinion and thoughts on your product. When it comes time to consider the findings, you don’t want to have a confirmation bias.
