How to Avoid Christmas Burnout
Don't let the stress of the festive season leave your teams feeling undervalued and overworked.

How to Avoid Christmas Burnout

Navigating the pre-Christmas work rush?

Is your team feeling the pressure of work and personal commitments pre-Christmas?

December is an amazing time, with a touch of magic in the air and the excitement of Christmas and Summer holidays fast approaching.

However, it can also be a time of immense pressure as we juggle added work expectations, many social events, community activities, family commitments, end-of-year school/kindy activities and of course Christmas shopping (not to mention that cheeky elf that keeps a few parents up at night). ??

Remember, a team stretched thin on work and personal fronts needs care.

Well-being is key to productivity and happiness. HRD Australia warns that neglecting self-care for work leads to lower resilience, productivity, and job satisfaction, a crucial consideration during the busy end-of-year period.

Here's how to keep spirits high and job satisfaction up:

? Celebrate your team's achievements with social events - vital for morale, recognition, and a great opportunity to unwind and reflect.

? Flexibility is key. Understand the extra personal commitments everyone has at this time of year and try to be accommodating and understanding wherever possible.

?Be realistic with deadlines. We often cram a month's work into just a few short December weeks. Prioritise what's essential, and use this as a time to wrap up projects rather than starting anything new.

? Encourage breaks to prevent burnout and sustain energy. As suggested by Harvard Business Review, taking regular breaks from work doesn’t tend to detract from performance, but can help boost it!

? Don't forget your remote workers! Including them in social activities and breaks is key. For example, why not host a virtual coffee break or festive quiz? These simple yet effective activities can make remote team members feel as involved and appreciated as those in the office.

It's all about creating a sense of belonging, no matter where your team is working from. Make sure everyone feels part of the festive fun!

We should all commit to ending the year with our teams feeling appreciated and energised for a fantastic 2024!
