How To Avoid Becoming Spam

How To Avoid Becoming Spam

The Best Emails I write make 0 dollars

There’s email lists you love and there’s email lists you SPAM! So what’s the difference between them?

If you run a business there’s a whole host of things that you need and one of them is emails. Even if it’s scary, or hard, or you’re not sure where to start the benefits of having a list of emails go FAR FAR beyond just being able to contact people. One of my favorite reasons is that emails are traffic that you own… let me explain, when you have to pay someone else for attention that's traffic you don’t own aka purchased traffic, usually what you do with that is turn it into traffic you do own, meaning you personally have a way of getting those peoples attention again without having to pay for it.

Here’s the deal, what do you do after you get someone’s contact information?

Most entrepreneurs when starting, burn out their buyers immediately with a pitch fest, constantly selling or asking people to buy, but here’s the secret: My BEST emails don’t make a dime… upfront ;).

If we all take a second to think about it, most spam is big companies that show us things that have little relevance to what we want, or small companies that don't really know how to communicate through word yet, emails that are just plain pitches over and over again, or people we have no idea who got our emails in the first place- btw spam, how can such a delicious word be used for such an annoying email catastrophe?!

So... how can your business stand out, and avoid being rammed in the spam box? Well the clues are in the same place we don't want to go.

  1. Write things directly relevant to your customers things that catch their eye, what’s going on in their life right now
  2. Give your readers something to chew on that they don’t have to buy, remember your buyers are people, and your tribe, create some culture and connection.
  3. Make sure you’re acquiring emails correctly and adding value when asking for contact information.

So here we go following rule 3, if you liked this I think you’ll really enjoy the emails I send weekly!
