How To Avoid Bad Clients (And Attract Good Ones)

How To Avoid Bad Clients (And Attract Good Ones)

Maybe you have had the client who paid the least and complained the most. Maybe they argued about the price. Maybe they showed up late...every time. Maybe they pay slow. Ringing in bells?

If you have never had this client I hope you NEVER do. Here are some tips to avoid the pain in the neck client.

  1. Clarity

When you are clear on who you serve and who you DON'T serve it is easy to spot the problem clients before they become...well clients. This is one of the first exercises with my own clients. We get clear on the problem we solve, how we solve that problem and who we solve it for. The answer to these questions can prevent a lot of headaches from clients you can’t or shouldn't help.

  1. Screening

In the hospital they call it triage. In corporate they call it an application. As a business owner how do you make sure you are talking to the right person? Using a questionnaire can ensure you are talking to the right person. It also reduces the amount of time wasted with people you can’t even help. I like to have my questionnaire on my calendar link. They have to answer the questions before they talk to me or my team.?

  1. Say No

This was tough for me. Especially when they were ready to pay in full. Having standards for yourself and clients will create a peaceful environment within your business and that spills over into your life. I know revenue is important. Please don’t make decisions from a place of desperation. Saying no also makes space for better opportunities!?
