How To Articulate Your Value

How To Articulate Your Value

There are many ways to articulate your value.?

First, there is our human value which is infinite. Nothing is more valuable than a human life. A person does not need to be “doing” anything to be of infinite value.?

However since every human alive is of infinite value, let’s dig a little deeper to find our value.?

Second, there is the value of what we do for others. This can be time we spend on a task, our hourly rate or the price of the projects and services we deliver.?

The more qualified we are the more value we have - so generally if we are fresh out of high school we might charge less than someone with 5-10 years of experience.

Our value increases with years of experience and recognisable qualifications.?

This is typically the way that business sales messaging is crafted, in terms of the services provided and the qualifications and caliber of the staff who are deployed to complete work..?

Third, there is the value of the problems we solve. This is more reliant on the outcomes we create - for example, the money we can make for others, the time we can save others, the stress or pain we can relieve others from and so forth.?

It doesn’t really matter how long it takes us to do that, or what certifications we have, but simply if we can create the outcome, we can command the price.?

A great example of this is the teenage hacker who lives at home with his or her parents. It doesn’t really matter if the teen hacker has finished high school or gained a degree. If they have the skills to access some information that is valuable to the government or to solve a problem for the police, they can be paid richly for it.?

The same goes for highly paid consultants across any industry. It doesn’t matter if it takes them 5 hours or 50 hours. They can command high figures for the outcome alone.?

Evidence of results created is pretty much 99% of the qualifications required.?

Articulating our value therefore comes from all three of these overlapping areas - our intrinsic human value, the things we do for others, and the nature of the problems we solve or the outcomes we create.?

What is really powerful to pay attention to is that “our value” comes both from within and from without.?

“Our value” changes according to who we help, the problems they have, the desires they have and what they consider to be of value.?

The value of what we DO, and the value of what we create for the OTHERS is vastly different.?

The secret to articulating our value is finding the BEST THING we do, to create the BEST RESULT for the BEST OTHER.??

If we try to help all people with all things, we become a generalist and our value diminishes.?

Once you can say NO to many good things and good people, in order to focus on the BEST THING for the BEST PERSON, now you can articulate your value.
