How to approach potential employers
One of the hardest hurdles in searching for a job is standing out from the crowd, some job listings receive hundreds, if not thousands of applications and just sending in your resume and cover letter through LinkedIn or other job advertisement sites will often result in you being stuck at the bottom of the pile. Therefore talk about the best ways you can stand out against the crowd and rise to the top of the pile of potential candidates.
Take the initiative
One of the best ways to stand out from the other candidates is to reach out personally, if you see a job listing that you really want then the best way of showing how much you want it is by contacting the employer directly, the easiest way of doing this is to find the LinkedIn of the employer and message them or emailing the head of the department personally. State that you were looking at the role in question, and ask how you can get involved within the company.

Offer to work for free (seriously)
Particularly in tech, the demand for experience in the role can be daunting, with some roles stating a minimum of 2 or 3 years experience even for an ‘entry role’. However if you’re willing to show initiative it could be the step in the door that you need to kickstart your career.
By approaching an employer offering to do a few hours a week for free, you can look to show your value to the employer in that time as well as being able to learn much more about the role and skills needed within it, and potentially earning yourself a full-time contract by being invaluable to the company in that time.
Going forward
These are just two ways to stand out, but the key to both of these is showing that you’re committed to put in the hard work and displaying a willingness to learn and grow. Keep this in mind and be creative in your approach to potential employers when looking to land that dream role you’re working so hard to achieve
