How America Got Hooked...Quite a Story Line.
I went to the pharmacy the other day and America was in front of me in line. 350 Million people. A Growing crisis. Opioid addiction.
The wait was excruciating. Luckily, I had a few pain pills left in my easy take along pill carrier. Even with pain killers, the wait was boring, and painful. I knew I was going to be late for dinner. When I finally got to the head of the line, I was told I had to wait until the automatic timer opened the safe. It was one of those days.
Personally, I blame the drug addicts and casual drug users for the "epidemic." And the media. And the people waiting to sue the drug manufactures for treatment costs for opioid abusers.
I can easily imagine what's happening in newsrooms across America. "Hey Ed, what do you want us to write about today?" "Naw, there's got to be something else than pain killers, global warming, asbestos, and talcum powder that's riveting, controversial, timely and true. How about crooks in politics? How about kickbacks, special interest groups and individuals?"
How about personal responsibility?
How about the idiot politician in California looking to control neck ties in the workplace, claiming a 7.5 percent reduction of blood flow to the head? Add that to the already staggering 35 percent reduction of blood flow, well dressed California men are experiencing up to a 42.5 percent reduction of blood flow to their heads. If this law is passed, you'll probably get Californians looking to split up the State into two or three smaller states.
Personally, my "addiction" to painkillers started with Baby Aspirin. I remember it as though it was yesterday. I had this diaper rash. I was crying. My mother was busy watching the radio and didn't think it possible that baby aspirin could be the gateway drug in my future. Not only did I become addicted to aspirin, I became addicted to the baby bottle. Just one suckle, and I'd calm down. It would put me to sleep.
To this day, I'm addicted to naps. I blame cows, formula companies, plastic and glass manufacturers, and rubber nipple makers. It hasn't been pretty.
There's just too many riveting stories. Never let a good crisis go unnoticed.
