How am I going to raise my own game?
You are in the top spot. Guess what? You can't abdicate because you aren't confident, competent or don't feel like it.
Quoting the famous @Vistage speaker Pat Murray: "There is no trivial act or comment by a leader". All eyes are on you - and magnified due to the Authority Figure complex. Meaning, how much are you paying attention to your own behaviors and their impact? Who is going to tell you when you need more or less of something? You may want and expect your team to but our experience is that management teams don't speak up.
Brilliant @Vistage speaker AmyK declares: "Your organization requires a strong leadership skillset, some seriously advanced critical thinking skills, and of course, the ability to communicate effectively"
It even takes work for a bonded advisory board of peers to be able to challenge each other in areas where they could be more effective. At least they know they are not getting the "corporate nod" or socially acceptable "nice" behavior from their board. They get it straight and sensitive.
That is gold. For both the leader and the rippling effect on their organization. And it's rare to find. Unless you are in a high performing Vistage group. Those folks are committed to playing at a higher level. And that is one of their competitive edges.
