How to Align Employee Values and Company Culture

How to Align Employee Values and Company Culture

Value based assessments are important to ensure each part of an organisation is working towards the same goals. To do this we use an innovative assessment – Match V.

Match V is a values assessment designed to measure a candidates values and their fit to the company culture. A person-culture fit refers to how well an individuals values and preferences match that of the company’s.

Match V is designed with the international motivation theory and self-determination theory firmly in mind, measuring both motivational factors and cultural preferences of a candidate. Match V defines a culture profile for a company and matches it to that of an individual’s own values and motivators.

Essentially, what Match V does is provide an insight into an individual’s values and driving forces, whilst cross examining them with the company’s own values and driving forces.

How Does it Work?

Firstly the company culture needs to be set. For this to be accurate a number (2-5) of high ranking staff, will score the company in seven different areas using 14 scales. These scores will then be discussed and agreed upon by all individuals. The goal of this is to define the culture profile for the organisation, thus setting ‘standards’ for the candidate to achieve to determine how well they match the culture of the company.

The result is shown through a percentage match score between the candidate and the organisation. As with all of Ascend’s products, the test can be undertaken via tablet, smartphone or computer.

Benefits to Using Match V

Match V exists to prevent an organisation from recruiting a candidate that does not match their culture or ethos. As mentioned above, it does this be evaluating how well a candidate fits the organisational culture and provides an insight into whether a particular candidate would struggle or thrive in this company environment.

Match V adds an extra element to test between candidates who may have achieved similar scores in other testing, as well as job and education history. In essence, it aids the decision making process by providing another measurable test to determine which candidate will likely achieve a higher job satisfaction and commitment to their job in general. Both higher job satisfaction and employee engagement are both often attributed to working in a positive workplace culture.

Match V is a strong tool to ensure a company culture is maintained in times of growth. When opening a new office overseas or far from your headquarters – Match V allows easy assurance that the ethos of your company will be maintained in the new hires and location. Reducing the amount of time you would need to spend travelling to and fro to ensure your strong company culture is continued.

Whilst Match V is a powerful tool to use on prospective employees, it is also very insightful to use on your current workforce. Identifying the current existing work culture profile in an organisation will help to see if the current culture is in line with the perceived culture. Therefore, Match V can work to highlight if your existing culture is how you believe it to be, or if it needs further development. Administering the test on current employees provides a clear insight into whether the employees view the image of the company the same as how the company itself does.

Match V can also be used as a team building tool. By deploying Match V across a workforce, you are able to identify who is driven and motivated by certain factors, therefore pairing or grouping similar motivating factors together to create an optimised team.

A unique benefit to Match V is that it can be used as both a selection, and what is known as an “attraction” tool. By this we mean that by making the assessment openly available through your website, a prospective candidate can take the assessment before even applying for a role. Not only does this show forward thinking from the company perspective, bit also it gives candidates a chance to see if they would be a good fit for the company.

Conclusion

Match V is a tool that allows companies to have an extra dimension of which to determine candidate suitability to your company. Through employing candidates with a strong culture fit to the company, it is likely to improve job retention, work ethic and greater job satisfaction. In all, this leads to a happier and more efficient work force. A win for all parties involved!
