How to Align, Agree, and Commit: A Coaching Conversation (8.8)

"It's never a matter of time; it's always a matter of priorities. 'I don't have the time' means 'It is not enough of a priority for me.'"

Eric and his partner run a service firm. They are doing well, but he wants to scale up. After three years he is losing hope. Although he and his partner frequently talk about the investments required to grow the firm, “they never get done,” perhaps, he speculates, "because we don't have the time." 

Eric feels the misalignment between him and his partner. He feels he’s doing things “on his own,” without his partner’s support. 

He would like to learn how to align, agree, and commit to create a shared future with his partner.

It's fun to watch are skilled coach in action, helping a smart person work out a simple problem we all face. I like the way Fred reveals the secret: the partner was never the problem. Take half an hour to watch this and you'll be a better leader.
