Flying is the Business of Freedom #FlySafe #WeAreAviation
Welcome back! This week we have an interesting podcast recommendation for you, an insightful interview with Ben Minicucci, updates on jet fuel prices and much more. Let's get started.
On pilot training and recruitment, Ben Minicucci had this - and more - to say:
"Airlines in the United States are taking control of pilot training. Everybody in the country is doing much the same as we are in starting pilot training in-house.
We have been talking about a pilot shortage for a decade in the United States. The crisis made the situation worse. Reducing cash burn was paramount during the pandemic and all airlines tried to stop bleeding cash as we had no idea how long the pandemic would last. That meant we saw lots of senior pilots taking early outs. We all lost a lot of pilots.
Then the crisis came to a speedy end and growth returned quickly. This created a dynamic for airlines to attract and train pilots."

For the 38 countries that are members of the OECD, inflation reached a 30-year high of 10.3% in June. While this is a high number, it pales in comparison to the rise in the price of jet fuel, the?inflation?of which reached 128% in June.
The steep increase placed unprecedent pressure on the?airline industry.
It is encouraging that the global supply of oil recovered in July, and this upward trend is expected by the?International Energy Agency (IEA)?to last until at least the end of the year.
As suggested by the downward-sloping futures curve, the market also expects?oil prices?to continue trending down until at least next year.

2 年So fuel prices have a downward trend and passenger numbers upwards, what is the underlying reason for the abandonment of flights this winter, especially the example of British Airways that helps the Northern hemisphere dwellers get some winter sun - can it be attributed to ‘home networking’ as well as the present problems of weather and personal/company cut backs that also include low confidence in the management of domestic and commercial fuel costs/hedging?
