I recently came across a post that made me pause—was I being manipulated? As I read, I caught myself debating not just the argument, but the way it was presented. Was the conclusion truly convincing, or was I being nudged toward believing it? I’m not an expert on the topic itself, but I recognized familiar persuasion tactics at play. I imagine many people have developed this kind of awareness by now. That realization made me dig deeper—because if AI is noticing these tactics, it will eventually perfect them and use them on us as well.

"We finally made progress on closing the pay gap—only to discover a new problem: the AI gap. A recent Harvard study shows that women use AI tools 25% less than men. The consequences? Lost career opportunities, lower efficiency, and a widening professional divide. If we don’t address this now, women risk falling behind in the AI-driven workplace."
At first glance, this post seems logical, but it compares two completely different things. The pay gap is a real issue because hiring and salaries are controlled by people who might be biased. That’s why it makes sense to investigate it. But with AI usage, there is no external barrier—only individual choice. There’s no boss deciding who gets access, no rule stopping anyone from learning. AI is available to everyone. The post assumes that using AI less leads to a disadvantage, without proving that there’s actually a problem.

Mental health coaching AIs could reinforce specific narratives that influence a user’s self-perception and emotional state. As these systems refine their techniques, they will become increasingly effective at guiding human decisions—sometimes without users realizing they are being influenced at all.
The more AI interacts with humans, the better it learns what works. And the more it learns, the more it will refine its methods. The risk is that this process will not be easy to reverse. A/B testing different emotional framings determines what spreads best, then amplifies the most persuasive versions. As these systems become more autonomous and optimized for virality, we risk an AI-driven information ecosystem where persuasion is not just an accident but the default operating mode.

Today, humans still oversee the process, but as AI models grow more sophisticated, they could autonomously refine political messaging strategies, detect and exploit emotional vulnerabilities in different voting groups, and run continuous persuasion loops without direct human input.
