How AI Could Change Us

How AI Could Change Us

I recently spoke at an annual conference for technology leaders and it motivated me to delve deeper into the Artificial Intelligence (AI) conversations.

The two largest players currently at the table appear to be Google and Microsoft, and as Google CEO Sundar Pichai states, “Artificial intelligence is one of the most profound things we're working on as humanity. It is more profound than fire or electricity.” Pichai continued by stating, "AI will be as good or as evil as human nature allows."

With statements as impactful about AI as this, it's clear that this will be an important change in our society, and how we handle this change will be even more important.

As someone who analyzes the change process, I understand the imperative nature of change and also understand the potential challenges. One of the most clear cut challenges to me about AI is.......how will AI change us.

The positive benefits could be huge, especially in the education sector. Imagine a child (or adult) with dyslexia having the ability to put one or two thoughts into an AI platform, and allowing that platform to aggregate those thoughts in legible copy. Or a child with aspergers or ADHD.....not to replace the creative or characteristic benefits those children possess, but using AI technology to begin putting their thoughts on paper, so to speak.

The positive potential is unimaginable. But so is the potential negative potential.

How we as individuals and organizations utilize Artificial Intelligence technology will likely be determined by the two initial questions we must ask ourselves prior to this change process.

* Why are we changing?

* What exactly are we changing?

The more specifically we answer these questions in advance of this AI change, the better we will be.

So as you consider the implementation of AI into your individual and/or organizational lives, it is imperative to ask yourself - Why are we changing and What exactly are we changing?

Many scary changes coming due to AI. A few radio stations even are testing it to replace human personalities thus reducing overhead. Will the listeners still listen to a robot? Only time will tell.
