Beanstalks HealthTech start-up competition 2019 

Sometimes, you just need a little magic to help your business to grow.

Last week we announced that the BEANSTALKS? competition at the GIANT Health Event 2019 was open!

BEANSTALKS? is an international “competition for prizes” for health and care tech start-ups. We welcome early-stage businesses to enter to gain exposure to a prestigious panel of judges under a range of categories around applying technology to better outcomes for health and care.

The artificial intelligence (AI) market is still young and is projected to expand rapidly. Here are some ways that it is predicted to benefit healthcare: 

Revolutionising diagnostic procedures

3D body mapping could identify and treat organs and cells damaged from medical conditions

Purdue University researchers have come up with a 3D mapping technology to monitor and track the behavior of the engineered cells and tissues (that replace damaged cells) and improve the success rate for patients who have already faced a debilitating disease.

Funding news

Medicortex, Finland 

 $1.1 million

Research grant from US department of defence

The grant provides funding for continued clinical development of the company’s diagnostic kit ProbTBITM for rapid detection of mild traumatic brain injury and concussion. Winning this highly competitive grant is also a strong signal and recognition of Medicortex’s approach for the urgent need to rapidly and reliably diagnose mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) and concussion.

Digital health investments bounced back in Q2 2019 with nearly $2.5B in funding

The past three months have shown that investors are ready to stump up for digital health companies of every shape and size. The $2.45 billion in fundraising came from an impressive 81 separate funding deals for startups big and small, domestic and international.

Reasons to be grateful for Health-Tech:

The number of deaths caused by lung cancer peaked at 159,292 in 2005 and has since decreased by 6.5 percent to 148,945 in 2016 (American Lung Association).

20 - 23 November 2019

The DPH Conference is a world-leading interdisciplinary event on research and innovation in digital health organised by University College London’s IRDR Centre for Digital Public Health in Emergencies.
