The implementation of artificial intelligence is inevitable, and the possibilities this integration poses are sure to be beneficial. In a work environment, artificial intelligence has already begun to play certain roles, manning online customer chat features and organizing data. As the programs begin to evolve, the uses of such technology will only increase, leading to a digital revolution in the workplace.
Efficiency & Accuracy
By eliminating some room for human error, AI will allow for improved practices in the workplace. Increasing demands for productivity and production require workers to increase their pace and the quality of their work; humans, unfortunately, have limitations that prevent them from reaching impossible standards. With the aid of artificial intelligence, mundane, repetitive tasks will be delegated to automated processes, leaving human workers with more time to focus on complex tasks that require attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
Security
Using AI to help encrypt and protect data has already become fairly commonplace. Such automated programs can also be used to limit least privilege (also known as cyberhygiene) to limit the attack surface of potential cyber threats. Unlike humans, AI also possesses the capability to constantly monitor for threats, which allows for faster detection and combattant efforts.
In addition to cybersecurity, AI can aid with physical security tactics, as well. Surveillance methods have improved dramatically over the past century, and with the integration of AI, the tactics used to protect physical spaces and material goods will continue to improve. Using advanced video analytics tools that feature facial recognition and sensor technology will increase the likelihood of identifying and apprehending potential criminals or trespassers.
Voice-activated technology and the Internet of Things (in which smart devices are able to communicate with one another to convey messages and commands) already allow for long-distance action such as controlling lighting and temperature features. It would not be unreasonable, then, to predict that similar technology will be used in the future to respond to incidents like chemical spills or active threats, allowing humans to care for each other in cases like mandatory evacuation while the AI assumes control of actions such as contacting the authorities.
Job Opportunities
Some researches have speculated that the rise of artificial intelligence will render some jobs obsolete, leaving human workers unemployed. However, it has been argued that AI will be a creator, not a destroyer, of jobs. Throughout history, innovative technologies have displaced jobs, but in exchange, they have allowed for increased productivity and created new opportunities. Jobs that require soft skills, as well as digital proficiency, will be prominent, as these are not skills that can be easily replaced or replicated by programming.
There may be an extended adjustment period as artificial intelligence becomes more integrated into the workplace. However, the benefits of AI in terms of productivity, security, and employment opportunities will be primarily positive, and moving toward a technologically advanced future will be imminent.
