How AI Will Affect the Future of Marketing

There’s no need to worry – yet. Artificial intelligence (AI) isn’t coming for our jobs and there’s very little to be gained by completely replacing your marketing partner with AI-generated content.?
Said the marketing director.
The truth is, AI is certainly shaking up the marketing space. If you’re part of this world and you don’t know much about AI, then frankly, you have a lot to catch up on.?
This next massive development in technology has the power to streamline jobs and replace mundane tasks, causing marketing teams around the world to rethink what audiences want and need.?
Advertising revenue was a sore point for industry giant Alphabet in Q4 2022, as both Google and Youtube ads fell short of Q4 ‘21. Notably, this fall coincided with the rise of trending chatbot, ChatGPT.
More recently, Microsoft has invested $10 billion in ChatGPT developer, Open AI, further highlighting these tech giants’ interest in this revolutionary technology.?
So, how will it affect marketing going forward??
To this point, AI is being used to replace the more tedious tasks like formulaic social media content, blog writing, and analyzing large amounts of user data.
Multinational beverage company, Snapple, has even revealed it is using OpenAI to write its famed facts for the underside of lids.?

This is a great example of how AI is useful for regurgitating information in a fraction of the time it takes a human to perform the same task.?
The scarier thing is that AI can do more than create basic content to fill out marketing campaigns. ChatGPT rose to fame last year for its ability to answer almost any question people could throw at it.?
Its accuracy and speed have become so fascinating that people have started turning to it for answers instead of Google – the very same program that has ruled the web for the majority of the internet’s existence.
Could it be that people are finally fed up with Google and the growing presence of ads on each page? Is the greatest search engine in history on death’s door??
If this were the case, the very concept of search engine advertising and content marketing would be turned on its head. Marketers worldwide would be forced to rethink the foundations of each strategy.
Seemingly unphased by the rise of chatbot technology, Alphabet Group CEO Sundar Pichai said he was super confident in the organization’s investments going forward.?
“Our long-term investments in deep computer science make us extremely well-positioned as AI reaches an inflection point, and I’m excited by the AI-driven leaps we’re about to unveil in Search and beyond.”
As a person who loves helpful innovation while also being terrified of the idea of living in a dystopian future run by robots, I am heartened to hear Sundar’s take on this.??
Although I don’t believe that AI can completely replace a human touch, I think there are a lot of pros and cons to these advancements. Maybe it’s time marketing got reset.

1 年Great point about replacing formulaic tasks! I think AI is changing the value proposition of marketers. If the end user can go directly to an AI tool and generate content or write copy, then our value is no longer in generating content or writing copy. To me, the gap exists in the human touch required to translate business needs through the lens of the target audience. The AI copywriter can write the most detailed article imaginable on a topic, but if it doesn't understand the business goals, unique market conditions, and audience it will never connect in a meaningful way. The skill of distinguishing good work from bad is becoming crucial at an earlier stage in careers, despite traditionally taking years or even decades to develop.
