You probably don't realize this, but if you're a job seeker in your 40's, 50's or 60's, you've been taught to undermine your own job search.
So you do it every day ... describing your responsibilities and experience on your resume and in interviews.
Because responsibilities and experience only tell employers what you were supposed to do, but force them to guess if you did it well ... or poorly.
Most career coaches, outplacement firms and professional resume writers have taught you to undersell yourselves, because their goal is to help you portray yourself as qualified. When you face many qualified competitors, as you do in 2022 during The Great Resignation, from an employer's view, qualified = average.
But our parents and teachers taught us to undersell ourselves also, when we were scolded or punished for bragging about ourselves. So it makes us extremely uncomfortable describing ourselves at our best now, when searching for jobs.
The good news is that you don't have to undersell yourself, when you learn what to change in your resumes and interviews to sell yourself at your best.
I help people solve the most difficult job search problems, including job search acceleration, getting past ATSs, ageism, remote positions, product/job function/career/industry/ geographic change, unemployment, "bouncy" recent career path, job search turnaround, seeking raise/promotion, industry in decline/consolidation, long term gaps, family leave, or other of the most challenging job search issues.
