How Age 40+ Job Seekers Kill Your Chances By Employer Deception

Age 40+ job seekers are typically taught to deceive employers.

And it's killing your chances to land your next job.

After all, would you hire someone who was deceiving you? How would you trust them?

Here are some common ways most age 40, 50 and 60+ job seekers try to deceive employers:

  • Hiding Early Career
  • Hiding Early Career Dates
  • Hiding Graduation Dates

Your deception is easily seen by employers and based on incorrect information that ATSs are used to screen resumes based on early dates.

Leaving out early career or early dates are easily seen by recruiters - Applicant Tracking Systems can also be used to flag these exclusions. Recruiters look for this type of exclusion to screen out risky candidates, with bad things to hide. Candidates who served jail time structure their resume just yours, when you try to hide early career and dates.

In person or on video, interviewers can easily tell that you're older than you've portrayed on your resume. This gives the impression of "what else are you hiding?" rather than "I need you on my team".

The practice of age-related exclusion is based on fear that ATSs will be used to screen out your resume based on dates prior to a target date to estimate age. But Heads of HR don't allow this practice, because it leaves digital evidence trails of illegal age discrimination in hiring (and one of their primary jobs is to keep their employer compliant with hiring laws).

There are better ways to overcome employer age bias, so you'll get more interviews, better quality interviews, and can land a job faster when you're over 40. Want me to show you?
