How AEC Leaders Can Leverage Contech Trends in 2025

How AEC Leaders Can Leverage Contech Trends in 2025

The Top 50 Contech Startups Report 2025 by Cemex Ventures analyzes the industry's innovators and investments in their future success. The report also helps Contech leaders anticipate trends, prioritize investments, and align their technology strategy with the future of construction.

Contech remains one of the most untapped sectors within venture capital, even though its weight has increased over the years. Its share of all venture capital funding increased from 0.6% five years ago to more than 1.1% in 2024. However, it is still not proportional to construction’s 14% slice of GDP!

The big picture

The total investments in construction technology in 2024 were $3.1 billion, 2% more than in the previous year. However, the number of deals increased by 38% and was 325.

Investors were especially eager to invest in early-stage startups.

Most (45.85%) of Contech deals took place in North America, but it has lost ground to Europe (39.08%) and Asia Pacific (10.77%), both of which increased by six percentage points. The US, UK, Australia, Germany, and Canada were the most active countries.

Key takeaways for company leaders

What can you read from the report that will help you succeed in 2025 as a tech leader or developer? Here are the key takeaways:

AI is becoming a strategic imperative

AI adoption surged in 2024, comprising 28% of all Contech investments and 37% of Contech funding. Startups that attracted the most funding leverage AI in project monitoring, geotechnical analysis, and safety compliance.

Enhanced productivity solutions took the lead

Enhanced Productivity was the leading investment category in 2024, accounting for 47% of total deals. The largest deals were for solutions that optimize workflows, automate construction processes, and integrate project data.

Green construction will drive investments

While investment in Green Construction declined by 27% in 2024, regulatory pressure and corporate sustainability commitments will drive investments in 2025. Innovations in carbon capture, sustainable materials, and circular economy solutions will play a critical role.

The Construction Supply Chain Remains a Bottleneck—AI Can Help

Supply chain disruptions persisted in 2024, and investment in supply chain technology lags behind other areas. However, AI-powered procurement platforms and automated inventory management are gaining traction.

Robotics & Automation Will Accelerate in 2025

The deployment of robotics on job sites is increasing, driven by labor shortages and productivity demands. 3D printing, modular construction, and autonomous equipment are maturing, offering new opportunities for AEC firms.

How AEC leaders can stay ahead

Top 50 Contech Startups Report 2025 paints a picture of an industry in digital acceleration. While funding for early-stage startups increased, investors are prioritizing proven solutions that address industry pain points.

Startups show the future of construction tech, so what should companies do to stay ahead? Here are some ideas:

  • Foster an innovation-driven culture—Encourage experimentation with AI, automation, and new materials.
  • Develop a Contech ecosystem—Collaborate with startups, VC-backed firms, and technology providers.
  • Prepare for regulatory shifts—Stay ahead of sustainability regulations that will impact procurement and project execution.
  • Integrate scalable digital solutions—Focus on technologies that offer seamless integration across project lifecycles.
