How to adopt Proptech in your Real Estate business?

The success rate of digital transformation initiatives is relatively low, with some estimates putting the failure rate at around 70%.

Several factors can contribute to the failure of digital transformation initiatives in the real estate industry, including a lack of understanding or knowledge about proptech, limited budget, data privacy and security concerns, complexity and lack of user-friendliness, and resistance to change.

In 2022 at RED T, we identified several challenges that can arise with adopting proptech in the real estate industry. Real estate professionals can take advantage of the many benefits proptech offers by addressing these challenges and working to overcome them:

Company Structure and strategy related:

  • Lack of understanding or knowledge about proptech: Some real estate professionals may need to be more familiar with proptech and may need to understand how it can benefit their business. It leads to a lack of adoption or incorrect use of proptech solutions.
  • Resistance to change:?Some real estate professionals may need to change their existing processes and adopt new technology, especially true for those who have been in the industry for a long time and are used to doing things a certain way. Fear of losing jobs is the primary driver of this fear, so implementation is crucial.?
  • Disruption of existing processes: The adoption of proptech can also disrupt existing operations and systems that real estate firms have in place. This can create difficulties for firms that are used to doing things a certain way and may resist change.
  • Talent shortages: The real estate industry may need a sufficient number of professionals skilled in proptech, making it difficult for firms to find and hire the talent they need. This can limit the adoption of proptech and hinder the ability of firms to take full advantage of it.


Proptech and Real Estate Knowhow related:

  • Complexity and lack of user-friendliness:?Some proptech solutions can be complex and require a learning curve to use effectively. If a proptech solution is user-friendly, it may be easier for real estate professionals to adopt and use it effectively.
  • Limited budget:?Proptech solutions can be expensive, and small or medium-sized real estate firms may need more money to invest in them. Lack of knowledge of choosing the solution tailormade to your budget hinders these firms' ability to compete with larger firms with more resources.
  • Regulation: In some cases, proptech may be subject to regulatory oversight, creating additional compliance costs and burdens for firms. This can make it more difficult for firms to adopt proptech and may discourage some firms from using it.
  • Limited scalability: Some proptech solutions may need help handling a large volume of data or transactions, limiting their usefulness for larger firms. This can make it difficult for these firms to take full advantage of proptech and may prevent them from adopting it.
  • Lack of support: Some proptech solutions may need more support or resources to help users troubleshoot problems or get the most out of the technology. This can create difficulties for real estate professionals and discourage them from using proptech.
  • Limited geographical coverage: Some proptech solutions may only be available in certain regions or countries, which can limit their usefulness for real estate firms that operate in multiple locations. This can make it more difficult for these firms to adopt proptech and may discourage them from doing so.


Tech and Data Integration Driven related:

  • Data privacy and security concerns:?The use of proptech often involves collecting and storing sensitive data, such as customer information and financial details. This can raise data privacy and security concerns and may prevent some firms from adopting proptech solutions. A robust, secure system solves this problem.?
  • Lack of standardization: 1500 plus different proptech solutions are available, and they may only sometimes be compatible. Create problems with data integration and may require real estate professionals to use multiple systems to manage different aspects of their business.
  • Integration with legacy systems: Many real estate firms have existing systems and processes that may need to be compatible with new proptech solutions. This can create difficulties with data integration and may require firms to invest additional resources to make the systems work together.
  • Compatibility with different software: Some proptech solutions may not be compatible with specific software or platforms that real estate firms use. This can create problems with data integration and may make it more difficult for firms to adopt proptech.
  • Lack of interoperability:?Some proptech solutions may need to be able to communicate with each other or share data, which can create problems for real estate professionals who need to use multiple different systems. This can limit the effectiveness of proptech and may discourage firms from adopting it.
  • Compatibility with different devices: Proptech solutions may only sometimes be compatible with other devices, such as smartphones and tablets. This can create problems for real estate professionals who rely on mobile devices to access important information and tools.



To increase the chances of success, real estate firms must plan and execute their digital transformation initiatives carefully. Adopt the process based on business to business, investing in the right proptech solutions and providing adequate training and support.
