"We are often asked, "who is digital CBT a good fit for?" This is an important question when planning treatment and ensuring that each individual receives appropriate mental health care.?
Often times, digital therapeutics are provided for individuals with sub-clinical or mild symptoms of anxiety and depression, and not for moderate or severe symptoms profiles.
Digital CBT treatment programs can also be helpful for those with more complex needs or severe symptom profiles – this is where Adjunctive and Blended Care (the ‘ABCs’ of digital) can come in handy.?
What is Adjunctive Care??
Adjunctive care refers to prescribing a digital CBT treatment program, alongside another treatment(s), such as medication, psychotherapy of a different modality, and/or other wholistic interventions. For individuals with more complex mental health needs, digital interventions can be a great way to outsource CBT skills learning, then using your expertise in session to tailor skills to their individual circumstances, provide support around risk management, or address more sensitive interpersonal difficulties they may be facing. ?

What is Blended Care??
Blended care refers to providing a digital CBT treatment program, alongside a traditional CBT intervention (such as face-to-face CBT). Blended care is an excellent option for patients experiencing comorbid mental health difficulties, or those with more severe symptoms that are likely to benefit from the ‘boost’ of digital CBT which can assist them to generalise skills learnt outside of your therapy or consultation room. ?
Many clinicians find that using an Adjunctive or Blended care approach for individuals living with more severe symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other mental health difficulties can provide a core set of skills to a broader treatment plan.
Discussing with your patients the benefits of an online treatment program can promote an active role in their own recovery journey, create more space in your consultations to strengthen the therapeutic relationship, and improve overall functioning and quality of life.
