How to add value to others?

Increasing effectiveness in leadership can come in many different ways. You can motivate, build and you can create high performing teams but having them sustainable for a long period is the key.

Often times we do not look into the nitty-gritty thinking that somethings will get sorted with time or people will start to understand by themselves. The biggest misconception as a leader is that you think that everyone can work just like you or work the way you think. This has brought a hindrance to the others who work around you and yourself because it lands you in a dead-end.

Communication becomes vital and without communicating expectations; one can never understand what he is set forth to do. Once we have our expectations laid out all we need to start working on is adding value to all that they work on. Value addition is not just motivating someone but also deals with walking them through a process and seeing them through their struggles as well.

So what should I do?

  1. Lifting up others whom you work; with the things you say and the words you use. Appreciate, Motivate, and Build!
  2. Offer to help them and support them in their work and their tasks.
  3. Inspire and encourage them in their personal growth, everyone has a unique set of skill; find those skills, and drive them to keep improving in those areas.
  4. Understand their issues and concerns regarding any worries they face and let them know they are not alone. Listen to their problem and understand how you can help.

Remember: Everyone is already facing battles of their own, so always speak to them in an appropriate manner, respect their work, and respect their efforts.

Adding value simply means you are considerate about positively serving others and using your authority in a constructive manner. People will start to respect or value your leadership when they know you care and value for them.
