How to add name pronunciation to your LinkedIn profile

Today, let's how record the correct pronunciation of your name and leave a quick call to connect, chat and engage.

To do this, you would have to be using LinkedIn mobile App, because this feature is only for the mobile application users as of this moment (3rd November, 2022).

This feature is indeed a great help for everyone, because no matter how simple, common or easy you think your name is, there are still people that find it hard to pronounce.

Not just because you name is unusual to them but due to the large difference in country, language and culture.

This feature also make your LinkedIn profile more personal, intimate and looks like it belongs to a breathing human since people get to hear your voice -and your smile.

If you don't see the audio icon, then you don't have the feature active for your profile yet.

If you have the feature active for your profile, then you will see profiles with the name pronunciation added, and you would also be able to listen to the audio with a click.

This is how a profile looks with name pronunciation added.

How to add your name pronunciation to your LinkedIn Profile

Use the LinkedIn App on your mobile phoneto sign in to your LinkedIn account.

Click on your profile picture at the top left side of you home page (Just as shown in the picture below ?)

Click on the area where you have your name and your profile picture (as shown below ?)

That would take you to your profile and because it's yours, everything there is editable.

Click on the first edit icon, just at the right side of your profile picture (Click the area circled in red, as seen below ?)

That would take you to a page titled Edit Intro where you can edit your name, your name pronunciation, your headline, among others.

Stroll to Name Pronunciation (as shown below ?)

Click through onto the text 'Add name pronunciation' to record your ten seconds of audio using your phone.

You can simply hold down the blue button to record, and review the recording immediately after recording.

As you are recording, a countdown from 10 to 1 second remaining shows.

You can re-record as often and as much as you like if you fluff it up, or if you listen and find out that there's too much background noise, just by clicking on the Retake button.

If you love what you hear, you can save your recording by clicking Apply.

You can also choose who can hear it - either everyone on LinkedIn, or just your connections.

It's advisable to choose All LinkedIn Member.

When you are done recording and applying, you would have to save the Edit Intro page with the Save button at the foot of the page.

Finally, you are back on your LinkedIn profile.

And now, you have a small icon at the top of your profile just next to your name, which people can simply click on to listen to (you can as well click on it and listen...)

This icon would allow your profile visitors to listen to your voice.

You can re-record at any time again just by editing your profile (using the steps above), but now instead of find the 'Add name pronunciation' click you would be click on the edit icon beside Audio recording.

Then you can choose whether to record a new pronunciation or to delete the previous pronunciation.

It's important to remember that at present, this needs to be done on the mobile application.

What should you say in your ten seconds of LinkedIn Audio?

Rather than just boringly saying your name (which is quite unlikely to take ten seconds except you get extra sluggish), why not spice the audio up a bit?

Clear your throat, set your smile in place (since people can actually hear your smile, just from the sound of your voice) and click on the record button.

Your voice message can be something like:

Hi there, I trust you are great? I'm Teslimat Ishaq and I will definitely love to connect.

Or

Hi, thank you for viewing my profile. I'm Teslimat Ishaq Your Hypnotic Copywriter and I'll love to connect with you so what are you waiting for?

It's just 10 seconds and you don't want to stuff anything that is too much too.

Just:

1. Say Hi/Hey/Hello/ Hi there

2. Ask about them or thank them something like How are you, How's the day going, or I trust you are great is amazing.

3. Pronounceyour name and;

4. Ask them to connect with you, or send you a DM (Your quick call to action).

5. Be creative, and be friendly.

Bottom line: I find out that people often find it difficult to pronounce my surname some pronounced it as Eshak, other as I-shark, meanwhile it's pronounced as Is-haq.
